Hi I'm Tom Rice

I grew up in mostly in Adelaide (15 years), but also in Hong Kong (3 years). I like basketball and surfing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have qualifications in law and accounting and have worked in both the public sector and private sector in law and accounting, with a focus taxation. I like to spend time with my wife and children, especially getting involved with their sporting and other events. With multiple children and multiple pets life can get pretty hectic, but we love it.

Why I am a Mormon

As a young child I came to know that God was real through the teachings of my parents and through attending church as a child. I learnt that prayers and answered and that the Holy Ghost could guide me if I listened to it's promptings. I received answers to prayers and came to know for myself that not only was God my Father, but also that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the Lord's church. As a 19 year-old I served a two-year mission in Auckland New Zealand to help others come to know God and to find out the truths of the Gospel. I gained a great love for the people in New Zealand and that beautiful country. I am not perfect by any stretch, however I do try to follow the example of Jesus Christ in my life. I know that doing so has brought great joy to myself and my family. This joy motivates me to keep going when times are tough, when I make mistakes or when events or circumstances bring me down. The Gospel gives me direction and a goal. I know that my participation in it helps others also through service and dealing with people in a way that the Saviour would want me too. I try let the Lord guide my interactions with others, at home, work or in general. The Gospel is also central to the way we are bringing up our children. With so many distractions and competing voices out there, we are glad to be able to base our lives on a solid foundation that puts into perspective what life is all about for both us and the community in which we live. Without this direction and common goal, I would feel a lack of purpose. I am glad to be part of something much bigger than myself and have goals to love and help others.

How I live my faith

I am involved in my childrens sports through coaching and assisting organise team events. I have coached soccer, cricket, aussie rules football and basketball (not all at the same time) while my kids have been involved. As part of my church involvement I have been responsible to help look after many individuals and families. Currently I assist looking after the youth for a number of the congregations in south Australia (and some smaller congregations in NSW and Victoria) through organising uplifting activities for them to get together and participate in. These activities are aimed at helping the youth to get to know others with similar beliefs, strengthen them spiritually and to have fun of course. I love to give service to others by reaching out and assisting where I can, Recently there were bushfires in South Australia which devastated some of the farming communities to the North of Adelaide, destroying homes, crops, livestock, equipment and a few people unfortunately lost their lives. We were given an oppurtunity to go and help with a clean-up of the properties on Australia Day. The devastation of the fires was horrendous, but it was great to see the hand of the Lord working through others in helping mend fences, hearts and lives.
