Hi I'm Mary Joy

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in the Philippines. I'm a high school teacher.

About Me

I'm a graduate of Education and currently teaching in a private school. I love working with the full time missionaries, sharing my testimony and studying the scriptures. I love sports, drawing, dancing and sharing these talents and skills to younger ones.

Why I am a Mormon

Way back year 2007, two sister missionaries visited our home. It's a new experience for me that time because its my first time to hear about "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". I really felt the spirit that was in them. They inspired me.They invited us to go to church on Sundays and gratefully, my mom accompanied me. We were shy because we wore jeans and shirt when we enter the chapel. Seeing our brothers and sisters wearing their Sundays Best Clothes, made me feel uncomfortable that time, but we were welcomed with a warm smile and inviting shake hands. I felt so excited to know more about the church and the gospel. The missionaries together with the leaders continue to assist us and teach us. I can say that there were many distractions and temptations when we decided to be baptized. Even my father prohibited the missionaries in visiting us and he threw away all my scriptures and manuals I used for church meetings just like Seminary. That made me really feel helpless and sad. I cried night and day knowing that we will not be baptized to our desired date. But as I learn about the Savior and knowing his great plan for me and my family, I continue to pray in supplication. I beg Heavenly Father to give my Dad presence of mind, that he would let us be baptized and get the missionaries back. And because Heavenly Father is mindful of me and my family, he touched my father's heart. One day, the missionaries were in our gate, smiling wide and they told us that my dad approached them to come. I'm so grateful for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ they heard my prayers. It's July 28, 2007 when we get baptized. I know that this church is true because the Holy Ghost made me feel the truth. There were many questions answered. And I continue to follow the Savior because this is the only thing he wants me to do. We were blessed by living the gospel in our lives.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving as a teacher in a young women class and assisting our leaders with our visitors/investigators.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Mary Joy
Joseph Smith Jr. was born in 1805 in Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont, to Joseph and Lucy Mack Smith. He had 10 brothers and sisters. His parents taught him to pray, read the Bible, and to have faith in God. At age 14, as an answer to fervent prayer, Joseph saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, in his First Vision. At age 17, Joseph began to receive heavenly messengers who prepared him for his role in the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. He was a prophet, just like Moses, Isaiah and others in biblical times. He was strengthened by God to fulfill His mission much as was Jeremiah who said, “Ah Lord God! Behold I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak” (Jeremiah 1:6-7). Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Mary Joy
God has called prophets to lead His Church in our day, just as He did anciently. The current prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Thomas S. Monson. He is assisted by two counselors—Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uctdorf. Together, they make up the First Presidency of the Church (much like Peter, James, and John after Christ’s death). All members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are apostles and prophets. The current Apostles are: Russell M. Nelson Dallin H. Oaks M. Russell Ballard Robert D. Hales Jeffrey R. Holland David A. Bednar Quentin L. Cook D. Todd Christofferson Neil L. Andersen Ronald A. Rasband Gary E. Stevenson Dale G. Renlund Show more Show less
