Hi I'm Matthew

I am a College student, I grew up in California where I did choir, musical theater, and service groups and I'm a Mormon

About Me

Currently I am attending college in Utah, but I grew up in California. I have lived in both Northern and Southern California which has allowed me to visit just about everything in California ranging from forests and national parks to beaches, amusement parks and cities. In high school I enjoyed participating in Choir and Musical theater which led me to meet many of my best friends. I also participated in the National Honor Society, a group that does service for the community and Boy Scouts were I was able to go on many adventures with my troop. Eventually I even received my Eagle Scout which I am very proud of. Now after high school I am focusing on my higher education, I do not yet know what I will be studying but for now I am working hard with what I have and am loving it.

Why I am a Mormon

To put it most simply I am Mormon because I believe this is the most true church. I did not have a huge amazing revelation or drastic change in my life but I know. I find it to be a very subtle thing where deep down I know this is true. I don't know all things and more than once I have had doubts or confusion, but when those doubts occur I hear a voice in the back of my head saying you know the church is true. This voice is my own and not some other mystic thing, but deeply engraven in my heart I know this Church is true. This simple testimony means a lot to me because it has shaped a lot of my actions. It has led me to choose certain actions like avoiding alcohol and pre-martial sex, it has shaped who I associate with and call my friends, it even influenced where I attend school. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am an active member of my church and attend every week I can. I also have been fortunate to receive a variety of callings or jobs in my church. Currently I am serving as a Family Home Evening parent. This means I am one of the leaders of a group of people my age that we call a "family." My job requires me to make weekly activities where we can have fun, do service, or have spiritual experiences as a group. Typically this calling would be fulfilled in actual families with actual parents but since I am a student away from home like those around me we can't do that. So we have made groups where I can help lead and have an enjoyable time with other students my age. In addition to doing my job I attend many meetings and loving hearing from my teachers and leaders. I love getting advice from my church leaders and peers because frequently they have more experience than I.
