Hi I'm Ian

I'm a Virginian, husband, University student, world traveler, frisbee player and a Mormon!

About Me

My wife and I recently added a new addition to our family in the form of a baby boy. His name is Leonard "Leo" for short and are learning each day how we know very little about raising a kid but enjoying every second of this adventure. I recently graduated from college with a Bachelors in Communication Studies and am currently working as a student teacher for Seminary and Institutes of Religion for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love to play any kind of sport with a disc such as disc golf, ultimate frisbee and kan jam. When I am not working, spending time with my wonderful wife Kristen and son Leo I usually am watching some kind of sports game. I recently have found a love for reading and am quickly becoming a book worm.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints but definitely didn't have to have stay one if I didn't want to. Each member comes to a point in their life where they have to know if what they are apart of is really of God. I was 13 years old and prayed to my Father in Heaven in the name of Christ to know if he was real and if his Son lives. I also asked if Joseph Smith really was a prophet called of Him, if the Book of Mormon was scripture to be read alongside the Bible as Holy scripture. I am here to say I did receive an answer through the Holy Ghost whom is God's messenger of truth that it is indeed all true! Gaining this witness even at 13 years old has changed my life for the better. I have a clarity that wouldn't be present in my life if it wasn't for the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ lives. That He died for my sins and all those who have ever come to live on this earth. Through Christ we can be saved and it is only through him that that is possible. I have felt his comfort and strengthening power throughout my life which is given to all who choose to come unto him and partake of his goodness. I have partaken and never want to leave the tree of life which is my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

As a seminary teacher I instruct and lead youth ages 14-18 to learn more of Jesus Christ and his Gospel. This is done by teaching out the scripture such as The Holy Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and the words of living Prophets and Apostles. As I study and pray for guidance the Lord helps me to know what to teach the rising generation in helping them feel the love of their Savior and how they can strive everyday to become like him. I serve in my local congregation as a 1st counselor in the bishopric. I aid the bishop (leading authority) in conducting church meetings, extending assignments to members to serve in the congregation as directed by the Lord through prayer, minister to members in helping them grow closer to their Savior Jesus Christ and collect the tithes of the members.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Ian
Of course we do! I personally don't want to know the person I would be without the knowledge and truth that is found in the inspired text of both the Old and New Testaments in the Bible. The Bible contains writings of holy Prophets and Apostles that give us guidance on how we can become more like our Savior in this life so we can live with Him and our Heavenly Father in the life to come.
