Hi I'm McKayla Beard

I am from Minnesota. I currently live in Provo, Utah where I am attending Brigham Young University. I hope to become a teacher.

About Me

I am 19 years old, and a freshman at Brigham Young University. I have the declared major of elementary education and hope one day to teach kids from Kindergarten to third grade. I am the second oldest of eight kids. My parents divorced during my senior year, and then both moved away from Minnesota where I mostly grew up. My mom and siblings now live in Utah and my dad lives in Chicago. I work at Target, gotta love that discount! Most of my time is spent there, or in classes. When I do have spare time I love to read. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jame Austen. I love happy Potter and will probably never grow out of that. I haven't read much lately though because I have gotten sucked into Marvel's Agents of Shield. I love all things Marvel, and if anyone asks Captain America is the best Avenger by far. I love to cook and am a vegetarian. I sometimes think guacamole is what makes the world go round. I love music. Mostly classic rock, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Beach Boys, and above all the Beatles. Paul McCartney was my first concert and it was beautiful. Other than that I like to sleep, garden, and hang out with my roommates.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because it makes me happy. This is the Church of Jesus Christ and He is my Savior. I am a Mormon because I think this is the same Church Christ made when he was here. I have not always had the easiest life, and I think most people could say the same. I am grateful for the understanding of the Atonement, knowing that Jesus died for me, for everyone, so He could comfort me and help me overcome my sins. It helps me forgive others, even when its hard, like when my parents divorced. It gives me peace and keeps me optimistic.

How I live my faith

In our church I work in the women's organization. I coordinate teachers, and music for our weekly meetings at church.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

McKayla Beard
God is our loving Heavenly Father. He is the literal father of our spirits, or souls. He knows us personally and loves each of His children. He has a body just like you or me. He really just wants us to find happiness and be with Him again. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

McKayla Beard
It's basically a health standard we choose to abide by. It keeps us healthy. We know our spiritual health is tied to our physical heath. Some of the rules we choose to keep is we don't drink alcohol, we don't smoke, we don't drink tea and coffee, and don't use illegal drugs. Some of these can seem strict, especially coffee and tea, but I know as I have keep the word of wisdom I have felt blessed physically and spiritually. Show more Show less
