Hi I'm Tanner

I grew up in Canada. I am a student at Brigham Young University. I am preparing to serve a full time mission for my church.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Alberta Canada called Okotoks. Growing up I loved playing all kinds of sports, specifically football and rugby. I also enjoy playing video games and binge watching T.V. shows. I currently attend Brigham Young University in Provo Utah, where I am studying to become a high school history teacher. I enjoy spending time with my friends and my family. I have been a member of the LDS church my entire life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is the true church. I know that the LDS church teaches true principles, and that it is Christ's church restored on the earth today. Throughout my life I have had several experiences where I have had to test my faith, and without fail every time I have received a witness through the holy spirit that it is true, and that I am on the right track. One of my favourite things about the LDS church is its view on repentance. As human beings we are bound to make mistakes, and living with these mistakes can be hard. The atonement of Christ allows us to repent of these sins, and feel the burden no longer. The atonement covers every emotion, whether it be anger, sadness, grief, or happiness. No matter what we are going through, Christ knows what it feels like, and will help us overcome it. Being a member of the church gives me comfort for when my loved ones pass away. I know that when they leave this earth they don't just cease to exist and rot in the earth; they return to the spirit world where they are waiting for us. I know this through my knowledge of the plan of salvation, which teaches that we were sent here to earth to obtain a body and to learn, and that we can return to our Heavenly Father thanks to Jesus Christ's atonement. I know that this is the true church. I know that it was restored by a prophet, namely Joseph Smith. I know that we are led by a prophet today, and that Thomas S. Monson is able to receive divine revelation on behalf of the church to lead and guide us. I know that God hears our prayers and answers them according to what is best for us. I know that He sent His son to atone for our sins so that we could return to live with Him. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and that we can learn more about the gospel through it. I know that my Heavenly Father loves us, and I love Him, and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I attend church every week, and attend several activities through the week. In my ward I have several callings. For one of them I organize activities for the entire ward once every couple of months. For another I coordinate the pick up of optional church donations called fast offerings. Finally one of my callings is as a home teacher. Home teachers are men that go to visit members of the church monthly to make sure they are doing okay, and see if they are in need or any help or service. I am preparing to serve a mission for my church, which will allow me to spread the gospel to the people where I am called.
