Hi I'm Laura McDonnell

I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I love adventure. I am a student. I am a teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University. I love nature and anything outdoors. If I am not hiking, swimming, or exploring, you can find me admiring photos of nature. I tend to think my physical capabilities are greater than what they really are so you can often find me tripping down stairs at important ceremonies, slipping on rocks while cameras are rolling, and running into walls and doorways. Despite my clumsiness at times, I love to dance. A few of my favorite dance styles are American cha-cha, tap, quickstep, and swing. I love to teach and be taught. My passion is teaching and I know that's something I want to do for the rest of my life. I am going to Thailand this summer to teach English to children and could not be more excited!

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are members of the church, so I grew up going to church and learning about Jesus Christ and His gospel; however, it has been a journey for me to gain my own witness and testimony of this church and the Savior. Although I was and still am not perfect, I continue to learn and try to become more like Christ because when I am praying, reading the scriptures, going to church, and serving others, I feel joy and true happiness.

How I live my faith

I am currently preparing to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At Brigham Young University I have the opportunity to be taking a class that helps me to prepare for that mission, as well as another class that helps me to improve my knowledge and understanding of the Book of Mormon. In preperation to devote eighteen months of my life to Heavenly Father, I am practicing being a good friend to all individuals that I meet. With my roommates I try to help and support them in whatever way that I can. I visit with other girls in my building and find ways to brighten their days through word and deed.
