Hi I'm Allyn

I grew up in Texas, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student at Brigham Young University, living in Provo, Utah. I am currently called to serve a mission in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico. I leave June 14th, and I am so excited. I want to become a published author. I love literature, and I want to use the passion and skills that I have to change lives. I love the outdoors, and I've found a passion for hiking now that I'm living up in the mountains.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the way it has blessed my life. I have a very rare eye disease that causes a lot of complications with my sight. I have a high risk of going blind. When I was diagnosed, I was scared. I didn't know what to do, or who I could turn to. I felt very alone. My doctors told me that I would need to get surgery, something that only boosted my chances of going blind, but at the same time would prevent me as well. I prayed for comfort, and to be able to understand why this would happen to me. While all of this was going on, I read 2 Nephi 32:5. "And again I say unto you, that if ye will enter in bytheway and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do." When I read this, I had this immense feeling of comfort and peace. I realized that I'm not always going to know what the Lord has in store for me, but that I am in His hands. All I need to do is to trust in God and everything will work out. This has testified to me again and again, as I realize that my Heavenly Father knows best. I know this gospel is true. I know it every day because I see all the things that God does for me, individually, every day. He knows me personally, He loves me, and I am forever grateful for that knowledge. That's why I want to serve a mission. So I can spread this knowledge of love and peace to everyone that I will encounter, the people in Mexico, and everyone else, for the rest of my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through my actions. I love learning about the ways the Lord has blessed the lives of the people around me. I love reading the Book of Mormon, especially the story of Alma the Younger. Knowing that God is a living, loving, and forgiving God gives me so much comfort because I can repent and be forgiven for the mistakes that I make.

What is faith?

Faith is similar to knowing that the sun will come up every day. You will never know for sure, because you can't predict the future, but you know still because the sun has risen every day of your life. It's risen every day before you were born, from the beginning of time. This is similar to faith in Jesus Christ. I can never have a perfect knowledge of the Savior because I have not seen Him. But, I have faith in Christ because of my past experiences. I know through records and testimonies of people seeing Him, from times before I was born. Show more Show less
