Hi I'm Jacob Powell

I grew up in Hesperia, California. I am serving a mission in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo West mission. I am a mormon.

About Me

I am Jacob, I'm 18 years old and I'm a Mormon. I live in Southern California. My hobbies pretty much consist of reading and collecting comic books, running, playing video games, hiking, geocaching, socializing, hanging out with my friends, and making people happy. I take an interest in doing a lot of outdoor activities like running, hiking, and biking. I am a recently graduated high school student.

Why I am a Mormon

In the beginning, I had no clue what most gospel terms meant. For a while in my youth, I had felt like I had only been going to church because my parents had told me to. I found myself only going through the motions. I could sit through our Sunday School lessons, Priesthood lessons, Sacrament talks, and testimonies. I still had no Idea of what any of it meant. As I got older, I began to ask more questions, gain a better knowledge of what the gospel meant and the terms that consisted in it, I started to learn for myself rather than go through the motions for my parents. I wanted to find out if everything I had been taught was true. In my Sophomore year of high school, my morning scripture study class (seminary) was learning about The Book of Mormon for the school year. This was definitely the year that I gained a sure knowledge that this book was true. To this very day, I appreciate the teacher I had. She had put up with all of my questions I had about the book. She was able to answer them with full confidence and sincerity. She had taught us about how the book has blessed her life, and many other peoples lives. The people I know who have the strongest testimonies are the converts. I have never seen anyone be so happy in their lives until they have received the fullness of the gospel. I myself feel like most people take the church for granted because they have always been a part of it. I love seeing the joy of converts and how blessed I know they must feel to know they have a meaning in life. We all have meaning in life. Our purpose in life is to live our lives the way that God has commanded us to, and to return to Him one day. I know that the gospel blesses lives. It blesses my life every day. I feel blessed to know that I have a Heavenly Father who I can talk to when I'm down. I know I'm not alone even when I feel like I'm alone. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) because I have found that the gospel is true for myself.

How I live my faith

The way I live my faith is that I love to go out with the missionaries. I love to learn more about teaching others about the gospel, and how it can bless peoples lives. I have served a two week mission when I was 17 years old, and I found much joy in sharing the message of the gospel. I also live my faith by sharing my knowledge of the gospel with the young men I teach. I have the opportunity to teach the 14-15 year old boys every Sunday, and I try to fill my lessons with my own personal experiences, and I encourage them to learn more about the gospel, to read The Book Of Mormon, to pray and ask if it is true, and to gain their own solid knowledge and testimonies of the gospel.
