Hi I'm Rachel

I am a student, and a big sister. I love adventure, learning new things and serving others. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Logan Utah, but I grew up in the great state of Alaska, which is probably where I get my love of adventure. Anything that has to do with the outdoors, I am there. Hiking, fishing, hunting, backpacking, etc. I love to be in nature, there is something calming and peaceful about hearing the wind blow through the trees and a stream trickling by. There is clarity as well. My family moved to Montana when I was 14 years old and luckily such things are possible there too. That being said I have many other hobbies as well. I love to experiment in the kitchen. Pinterest has become my best friend in helping me find amazing new recipes. I think cinnamon rolls are probably my favorite thing to make. Yum! I also really love to read. Curling up in some nook with a good book is a day well spent in my world. Playing flute is another one of my favorite things to do. I started playing in 4 grade and played through high school and college. One of my favorite memories growing up was when my dad and siblings would gather in the family room and play hymns together. Currently I am finishing up my Bachelor's Degree in Cultural Psychology from Brigham Young University Idaho by doing an internship in India. I am teaching English at a local school in Faizabad, UP and learning about the culture and customs of rural India. I am learning incredible new things and am learning to love the chaos and intensity of this great country.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the joy and hope that the gospels provides in my life. What would be the purpose of life if we only came to live and then die? Why would we be here? The gospel of Jesus Christ provides the answers to these questions and so much more. Every single one of us has the potential to become like God and live with Him again. He knows us and He watches over us with a constant and undying love and He will never leave us alone. He waits with unwavering patience for us to turn to Him and take His outstretched hand. The gospel brings me hope and assurance that even when trials come and I feel like giving up, I can succeed and I will succeed if I humbly trust my Heavenly Father and follow His commandments. I know with all my heart that my Savior lives and loves me. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and that he restored the gospel to the earth. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that if read with real intent will and does change lives. I know that families are eternal and I love my family with all my heart. I am deeply grateful for the prophets and apostles and their devotion to serving the Lord and the members of the church. I know that they are called of God to give us guidance and direction for our day. I love my Savior and I know He lives.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through the small and simple. Daily scripture study, prayer, serving others and striving every day to be a better disciple of Jesus Christ. I know that doing the little things is what keeps me going strong in my faith. While in India I am currently not serving in a calling, but in the past I have had the opportunity to teach the children in Primary as well as serve in various callings in the women's organization including President, teacher and visiting teacher. These callings have blessed my life and provided learning and growth in my faith in God. Currently I am preparing to serve in the Mongolia Ulaanbaatar Mission. I will serve for a period of 18 months there.
