Hi I'm Deborah Shapiro

I grew up in the Western United States. I am married and the mother of nine children. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Being a stay at home mom and being involved with my husband and children's activities has been the focus of my life. That has been very fulfilling for me. In doing so, I have also been involved in the community through PTA, Cub Scouts/Scouting, and substitute teaching in the public schools. We have seven sons and two daughters, so Scouting has been a big part of our lives. I loved being around our family so much that I even taught home school for a year. Our boys were more interested in exploring the world through the normal school experience. Because the schools in our area were good, we put them back into public school.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church most of my life. I have had so many experiences that have shown me that this is the right church for me. It's the feeling I get when I keep the Lord's commandments, then see how that has protected me from harm -- both spiritual and physical. It's the feeling I get when I pray about things. It's the love that fills my heart when I ponder the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It's the answers to prayers. And it is the assurance I feel when I make covenants with God, that He loves all of his children and wants us all to be happy and safe in this life. It's the knowledge that our church really does have God's authority to administer the ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I have found that regular church attendance and family devotionals have helped our family to be more loving with each other. I have participated in our ward in may ways -- teaching the children's classes, and leading and teaching in the adult women's organization. These things have helped me feel close to my Heavenly Father, has helped our family keep away from many of the habits and things in society that cause people and families contention, grief and pain. I love reading the scriptures and other spiritual material. They help me to see how I can overcome my own weaknesses and treat others better.
