Hi I'm Michael Valencic

I'm an artist, Eagle Scout, oldest of 11, LEGO enthusiast, deferred BYU student, guitarist, and homeschool graduate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 11 siblings, one of whom passed away at 12 days old. I know I will see him again someday though because we are an eternal family. I was born in Provo, UT, while my parents were at BYU, and I grew up (or at least lived) in several other states. The longest places I lived were about 5 years in Amarillo, TX, and most recently, about 7 years in Kansas City, MO. I love art and creativity, and I try to experiment and find new ways of putting things together. I also love mixing up common phrases and words we use to think about what they really mean and if we should even say them. I love abstract art, though I've also tried many other kinds of art. I worked for 3 seasons as a caricature artist for Kaman's Art Shoppes at Worlds of Fun, and amusement/theme park in Kansas City. My dream job is to work for PIXAR Animation Studios, and when I go to BYU computer animation is what I plan on studying. I had many other interests growing up, none of which went very far, including robotics/electronics, LEGOs (I wanted to be a LEGO designer for a long time), science, calligraphy, contact juggling, origami, ancient Medieval and Egyptian history, you name it. I also grew up being homeschooled, which is a really good way to develop a love of learning if you put in the work (which I didn't always do). I am learning to play guitar, and I also listened to a LOT of music including They Might Be Giants, other alternative rock, classical, folk-rock, instrumental soundtracks, and so on.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt the Holy Ghost confirm the truth of the Book of Mormon, and that Jesus Christ's original church has been restored, and He leads it through His prophet and apostles today. Even though I grew up in the church, I still had to choose to act on the things I learned and find my own commitment to it. Life keeps getting better and I am able to better get through and learn from challenges as I exercise my faith in Jesus Christ, try to do better each day, remember the promises I've made with Him, and listen to the direction and guidance from the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

Right now I'm serving as a missionary in the Washington Everett Mission. Yes it does rain most of the time, though the summers are very nice (not many people have A/C though...) I've met lots of interesting and really great people and I've been able to see a lot of personal growth and overcome weaknesses as I've tried to serve and love these people and help them increase their faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
