Hi I'm Shay

I grew up in California and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Shaylin and I am the youngest of 5 children. I attended BYU-Idaho for 3 semesters and recently decided I want to study sociology. Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, playing the piano, listening to music, and hiking. I also enjoy learning new things, whether it be another language or learning about different cultures. I am about to serve a mission for my church in Albuquerque, New Mexico this coming October. I am so excited!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon my whole life, and one of the main reasons I continue to follow the gospel is because it has brought me so much comfort, joy, and peace throughout my life. Reading the scriptures and praying has brought me comfort in difficult times and always keeps me going whenever I feel like giving up. It is the light in a world full of darkness. The gospel also brings me joy, knowing that I can be with my family eternally and return to live with God one day. It gives me a sense of purpose knowing where I came from and why I'm here on Earth. I am so grateful for the plan of salvation and for eternal families. I am also grateful for Jesus Christ's Atonement which allows us to repent of our sins and be saved. I know that the Book of Mormon allows us to learn more about Christ and his teachings, and that if we follow his teachings we will be so blessed.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church every week and living according to the principles and doctrines we are taught. I try to serve the people around me as much as I can; each month I visit a few women in my ward to see how they are doing and vice versa (we call this 'visiting teaching'). I also have a calling to teach a primary class on Sundays. Primary consists of all the younger kids (ages 3 to 12) and I teach the 9 year olds. I also live my faith by keeping God's commandments and adhering to certain standards, such as wearing modest clothing or only using clean language.
