Hi I'm Jim

I live in the United States, I’m a retired electrical engineer, who worked in the electrical power industry and I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Ohio and learned to love nature from Boy Scouting experiences and fishing with my dad. I also learned from my dad how to fix things, all kinds of things. When we go visit our children they always have something for dad to fix, and I love that. I tried to teach our children a good work ethic, and they seem to have learned that skill quite well. My wife and love of my life, Pat, is great at music and loves dance. She taught the kids to love those things, so we have balance. I love to hike and enjoy the creations of a loving God. From mountain peaks and from the bottom of canyons one sees life from different points of view. It takes effort to find beauty in both nature and in people. When we look, we can usually find it. I have enjoyed photography also, though not as much or as good as one of our daughters. She is really good.

Why I am a Mormon

As a boy I grew up in a Protestant home, attending church with my mother and brother. I was always moved by the stories of Jesus, his birth, life, death, and resurrection. I was content with my religion but open to new ideas. After I graduated from college I was a commissioned officer in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In my training class on Long Island, New York, I met a fellow in my class that really impressed me. His standards were better than several of our classmates, and he was very devoted in his religion. I was impressed with how he treated others and how they respected him for the kind of person he was. He began to share some of his beliefs with me. I learned he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who are often referred to as Mormons. I had no knowledge of that church, but I was very impressed with what he had to share. Over the next year I began to study for myself the teachings of the Church and was blessed with a witness, from the Holy Ghost, that what I was reading and hearing was indeed true. Since the time I joined the church my life has been very blessed in so many ways. I have come to understand and appreciate how much a loving God, loves me and my family. I have come to know that I can be with my family forever, and that is the greatest blessing I could ever hope for. As imperfect as I am, and prone to mistakes, the Atonement of Jesus Christ has paid for those mistakes if I will do my part and repent and try to change my heart and become more like Christ. What a great plan that is and comfort to me.

How I live my faith

I have learned that through service to others I find much joy in my life and seeing the lives of others changed for the good. I have found answers to personal questions about God and his son Jesus Christ that were confusing to me before. I have felt their love in my life.
