Hi I'm Marty

I grew up in Coalville, Utah on a small ranch. I love spending time with my wife, being outdoors, and serving others. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I love to be outdoors! Anything that involves hunting, fishing, camping, or hiking I love to do. I was married in 2015 to my best friend in the Salt Lake City, UT temple. My wife and I are both attending Utah State University and are nearing the end of our studies. I am in the accounting program and she is in the nursing program at the same school.

Why I am a Mormon

I did not grow up in the church. I was baptized at eight years old into the LDS church but never went to any of the meetings and did not understand the purpose of baptism. Thankfully, I had some great friends and a close neighbor that really taught me why I needed the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. I enjoy learning so I devoted a half hour each night (and continue to do so) to study the scriptures when I was a senior in high school. That small amount of time I spent learning about God and his son, Jesus Christ, has had more impact upon my life than anything else I've done. I soon found myself studying the scriptures more and more, memorizing them, and sharing them with my family. I also found myself in every church meeting that I could attend. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints means everything to me. I've became a better person, a better husband, and a better servant of God. I want to do anything that I can to return to live with him someday.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many different ways. Each morning begins with a prayer to our Father in Heaven. As soon as I arrive home from work or school I begin my study of the scriptures. I usually read at least one chapter of the Book of Mormon each day and try to look for answers with questions I have about my life. I also spend considerable amounts of time reading through the bible and addresses given by modern day apostles and prophets. Each night, around 9 pm my wife and I, read from the Book of Mormon as well. After we read and discuss what we've learned, we kneel in prayer and thank God for all that he has done for us that day. I can honestly say, it has made our marriage stronger and has drawn us closer to God. I am currently serving as the assistant ward mission leader in our area. My responsibility is to help coordinate missionary work in our small congregation. This is different from the full time missionaries you might have seen out and about in your neighborhood. I do this as I live my life. I look for opportunities to answer questions others might have about the gospel. I invite others to come to meetings and social events with our local congregation to learn about what the Mormons believe and practice. I love it!

What is the Book of Mormon?

Marty
The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture, similar to the bible. The teachings contained therein came from ancient prophets. These people descended from a family that left Jerusalem around 600 BC. This family was a lot like many of our families. They had children (some of which had opposing views to their parents and siblings), trials, and spiritual experiences. They did their best to keep the commandments of God and looked forward to the coming of Christ. They were taught that Christ would appear to, and teach them, soon after his resurrection. He did come and taught them his commandments and about the sacrament. He also called 12 disciples at that time to further spread his word once he left. I am grateful for the Book of Mormon and its teachings. It has taught me how to be a better husband and person but most importantly it has drawn me closer to Jesus Christ! I know he lives and is a resurrected being. I would highly encourage, and invite, you to read the Book of Mormon and then ask God, in prayer, if it is true. Show more Show less
