Hi I'm Alisa Buchanan

I am from Dallas, Texas. I am currently serving as a missionary in the France, Paris mission and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a University student studying microbiology. I love to learn and have always loved to read. I also love hiking and camping (but am significantly more confident than qualified). I am probably happiest when I eat and love food. I am also about to spend eighteen months serving the people of France on a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I am absolutely ecstatic. Having studied French for five years, I am passionate about the language and culture.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love the peace the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings to me. It is when I am participating in church and actively living the commandments that I feel the most joy and satisfaction in my life. The Gospel helps me have an eternal, rather than a limited perspective. During both hard and good times, I know that I can turn to the gospel for comfort. Another significant reason I am a Mormon is because of families. The LDS religion believes that family bonds extend beyond the grave. I love my family and am so grateful for the doctrine of eternal families. I know that my Savior lives and loves me and for these reasons, I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

One of the ways I participate in my congregation right now is by teaching the sunbeams. Sunbeams are some of the youngest members of our congregation. My class consists of three little girls who are all under the age of four. Each week I teach lessons like "why our hands are important." I am also living my faith by willingly giving up my time to serve a full time mission. This will require both time, money, and energy that could have otherwise been put towards schooling. My decision to go on a mission was not one I made lightly, but I could not be happier with my choice. I love the Lord and am anxious to serve in his name.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Alisa Buchanan
Missionary service is a privilege and not an obligation. Christ taught "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations." (Matthew 28:19) Many Mormons serve missions between the ages of 18 and 20 years old, their doing so is a beautiful example of the concept of sacrifice: giving up something good, for something better.
