Hi I'm Karen Strong Lambert Barnes

I'm the mother of ten beautiful children. I've lived, I've loved, I've laughed and I've cried. I love life because.. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the mom of ten wonderful children--all boys but nine. A few years ago, I lost my husband of 46 years to cancer. Thankfully for me, before he died he suggested I marry his friend who had lost his spouse to cancer a few years before. These men had been friends since they were scouts over fifty years before and had formed a dinner group with their scout friends and their spouses so I had known his friend for 46 years. I gratefully followed my late husband's advice and will be forever grateful for his blessing on this wonderful companionship. I am in awe of the blessing in my life of loving and being loved by two incredible men. We now share 15 children and 27 incredible grandchildren. I have lived in Utah, Louisiana, Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Japan, and then back to Utah. We are now preparing to live in Paris, France for 18 months while we serve an LDS mission. I have ridden this roller coaster we call "life" for over 65 years now. There have been thrills, suspense, joy, fear, and lots and lots of love. I'm grateful for life's experiences. Life is definitely good and I feel incredibly blessed.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm very grateful to have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for almost 60 years. Although my parents were not involved in the church when I was young, I had good friends who took me to church and helped me to understand the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I will be forever grateful for their influence in my life the the lives of my sister and our parents. When I was twelve years old my family was able to be sealed in the holy temple for time and eternity. Now that my father and my husband have passed away, I am so grateful for the sure knowledge I have that we will be together again and live as a family in the life after this. I know we are children of God. I know that Jesus Christ is our personal Savior and that He died that we may live forever. I know the scriptures are the word of God and that we can understand God and improve our relationship with Him by studying His words and praying for understanding and strength to follow Him. I know prayers are answered as I have seen and felt many, many times in my life the power of prayer and the peace that comes through God's answers and His love. I feel truly blessed to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ on the earth today and to know of His plan for His children.

How I live my faith

A major goal in my life is to be of service to others, especially my family. I was blessed to be able to stay at home with my children and enjoyed those years of motherhood. I've been able to serve in my church and community by being involved wherever I felt I could help. I've worked a lot with teenagers, teaching an early-morning religion class every school day for eight years. I was able to serve as president of our church unit's women's organization and enjoyed sharing the lives of so many diverse women. I love to teach and have often found myself teaching various age groups in diverse situations. I know I learn more than I impart so I really have appreciated those opportunities to prepare and teach. I love to entertain--cooking and decorating are fun and relaxing for me. I love to get out my best china and linens and set a table that says, "You are very important to me." I love to have friends, family, and potential friends gather at my table. I have made many life-long friends by sharing food and conversation with others.
