Hi I'm Karlene

I'm a grandmother who loves music, volunteering, and spending time with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After one year of university education, I got married to my high school sweetheart and became a mother. Within six years I had four children who became the focus of my universe. Once the children were all enrolled in school, I was able to work at an elementary school as a speech and hearing aide. I love the innocence of young children and helping them learn and grow. I enjoy reading (probably too much) and music, whether singing, playing the piano myself or teaching others, or just listening as it fills my soul. I now have ten wonderful grandchildren who all live nearby, and that keeps me really busy. Now that I no longer work full-time, I donate some spare time each week as a volunteer in the classrooms of a near-by elementary school.

Why I am a Mormon

I can't imagine not being a Mormon. It makes me sad when I hear of people who think we are not Christians because that is so not true! After the death of Jesus Christ and His apostles, the teachings of His church were eventually lost to mankind on earth due to apostasy. We revere the Prophet Joseph Smith for being the one chosen to restore Christ's church on earth again as it had been established by Jesus when He lived upon the earth in the meridian of time, but we worship God the Eternal Father and Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, along with the Holy Bible. It doesn't make sense to me that people would believe that God spoke through prophets anciently but, at the same time, think that He doesn't care enough about His children living today to do the same. One of the most beautiful teachings of the gospel is the eternal nature of families if they are sealed together forever by proper authority. I know my family can be eternal, and I wouldn't trade that blessing for anything!

How I live my faith

My loves and talents have been put to good use while I've served in my church, since much of my time has been spent teaching young children and using my music skills. My favorite thing is to teach children the gospel through singing, but singing in choirs myself is another opportunity that brings me much joy. I live near one of the temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I have had the opportunity to go often and have served for ten years as a volunteer in the office at the temple helping others who come there to receive temple blessings. I love the peace that is felt inside the temples of God.
