Hi I'm Debbi Trevino

I'm a mother, grandma and National Quilting Instructor and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I joined the church when I was a senior in high school. I first learned about Mormons by participating in a youth basketball team. After joining the church at seventeen, I decided to attend a college in Idaho-BYU-Idaho, where I studied graphic design/commercial arts. It was a great place to learn. I was a singer/songwriter playing and performing on guitar during my college years. I then married, had a family, and raised my children. I am an avid longarm machine quilter. I owned and operated a successful quilt shop for 12 years and for the past 20 years I have been teaching nationally in the quilting industry.

Why I am a Mormon

When I learned about Heavenly Father at the age of 15 and his plan for his children here on earth, it was new to me, yet seemed familiar...as if I knew this information before somehow. I still remember the impact I felt when a teacher explained that I was a daughter of God! It changed me. My heart changed and my self image was changed from that moment forward! I had not been active in any religion and the only religous influence in my life was my great grandmother. On a few occassions I was able to spend the night at her home and she taught me to pray each night before I went to bed. This was a key when I was given a special book to read later in my life. I was able to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it was true. I can honestly say that the gospel has empowered me in my life to be a better human being who desires to follow the teaching of Jesus Christ. I love the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I'm grateful for the truths taught in these scriptures. I know I am a better person because I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I enjoy helping my fellowman through community service. My faith has helped me live a life of service to others. I have been given many opportunities to serve in a variety of callings in the church. From coordinating over 150 girls attending a week long camp experience, leading and teaching music to children, and teaching once a month in a women's organization. I have been stregnthened by this service not only in my church community but also reaching worldwide. Now when I travel the world, I look for opportunities to serve. In 2013 I was able to travel to the Dominic Republic and participate in humanitarian service. It has been blessing to be involved in a quilt gathering campaign in my community in 2016. We gathered quilts to send to the refugees in Germany to give warmth and comfort to those suffering. My faith has motivated me to look around and outside myself to see what I can do to make a difference in others lives. I look to the Savior as my example. I am trying to be more like Jesus.

What are Mormon temples used for?

Debbi Trevino
Today I volunteer some of my time each week to working in the temple. It is a very satisifying job. I get to assist individuals who are coming to the temple (some for their very first time). It is a beautiful, peaceful, spiritual haven. It is a place of prayer. A place to feel close to the Lord. It is His house. Show more Show less
