Hi I'm Riley

Born in California and raised in Texas. Lover of everything outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've grown up playing soccer my whole life and played through high school. I like to run and live an active life. I love hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing, basically anything outdoors. I am also kind of an adrenaline junkie, but I'd say I'm more of an adventure junkie because I love to explore and do new things. I am a college student but don't really know what I want to study yet. I have been called to serve a mission for the LDS church and leave Feb 10, 2016.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon and grew up attending church every week. While growing up I obeyed the teachings of the church and did what my parents asked me to do because that's what was asked of me, although I did make my fair share of mistakes. Now I obey the commandments because I've realized that my life is better and easier when I am obedient to God's commands. I've noticed that because of my obedience I have lived a fairly easy life. I have also realized that when I choose to obey a commandment that I thought would make my life harder, exactly the opposite happens. I am able to get more things done in less time because I spend some of that time doing something that God has commanded me to do. Everything just seems to fall into place when I am doing everything that I have been commanded to do. Because of that, I have chosen to stay active in the Mormon faith. I know that this gospel can bless lives because it has blessed mine. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that it has helped me to live a happier life. I know that Christ's atonement has real power because I have felt it. I love this church and I would be totally lost in my life without it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being obedient and doing the things that I am supposed to do. Recently I was a Family Home Evening Group Leader while attending school away from home. In the LDS faith we are commanded to have a night each week (usually Monday night) where the family gathers and has a lesson and activity and gets to spend time together. At college it works a little differently because everyone lives independently. So groups are created with 10-12 people and a male and female group leader is assigned to each group. I was called to be the male group leader and I organized the meetings and asked different members of the group to teach a quick 10-15 minute lesson on a gospel related topic, and then the whole group would do some sort of fun activity. I really enjoyed my calling and being able to get to know the members in my group. Aside from that, I like to participate in ward activities that go on every so often. I have done service projects, helped families move in and out of houses, and attended social gatherings as well. When I was a teenager I was a Boy Scout and did a lot of stuff with my troop and learned a lot and had a lot of fun.
