Why I am a Mormon

I have gone to the Mormon church since I was a little girl. I remember singing the songs in church as a child and feeling a sweet peace and knowing that the words we were singing were true. That is when my faith in God began. As a young child I was told by my Sunday school teacher that if I would pray about the Book of Mormon that I could know for myself if it were true of not, and if the church were true. I remember taking her challenge very much to heart and going home that day and praying, but I did not receive an answer. As time went on I would periodically contemplate and think about that challenge. One day when we were kneeling for our daily family prayer my mind was turned again to the question of whether the Book of Mormon was true. My heart settled very intently on that question during family prayer that day, as if that was all that I could think about. And as I ponder an answer came to me right there and then. I felt God's love and warmth and a feeling of absolute assurance and truth that yes, the Book of Mormon was true. That feeling was familiar to me. I had felt in measure when I was a little girl singing songs in church, but never before with such intensity. It was subtle, but powerful. I knew that God was real, that He loved me, that the Book of Mormon was a book from God, and that the church I belonged to was good and right. Through the many years and trials of life the one thing that I have been able to rely on is that God is there for me and that He loves me, and He will hear and answer my prayers. I love reading the Bible and Book of Mormon and learning the teachings of Jesus Christ. These two books of scriptures testify and teach of Jesus Christ and bring me peace and joy, and give me direction and understanding. I am grateful to know that God is there and that He loves me. I am grateful to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Each week I go to church on Sunday. I love attending church. I go to Sunday school classes where I am taught and we discuss the teachings of the scriptures and their meaning and how they apply to my personal life. It is so good to learn about how to be a good Christian and follower of Christ, and to be united with others in that same cause. There are so many good people in the world all around me, even of different faiths. I try to live my faith by being good and doing good, the way that Christ has shown me how to live, by his example.
