Hi I'm Abby Dewey

I love dogs, people, and cheesy jokes. I'm preparing to serve a mission and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I've lived in Virginia, Chile, Texas, and Utah. I love to travel but obviously there is only so much you can do as a college student. Sometimes I consider dropping out of school so I can just go camping and hiking all the time but I don't think that would make my parents very happy. I guess I also like learning a little too much to do that. My family consists of my parents, three brothers, three sisters, and two dogs. Although I am currently residing in a little apartment with my five roommates here in Utah, home is a little farm house back in Texas.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of this church. Even as little girl, I always knew that the gospel was true. As I have grown older I have developed a much stronger testimony of its teachings. I have been tremendously blessed with feelings of peace, comfort and security even through trying times from developing a relationship with my Heavenly Father and from understanding the plan He has for me. After one particularly hard move to Chile, my mom was diagnosed with both skin and breast cancer. With seven kids all under the age of 16 in a new country and a sick mom, it was a very difficult time for my family. However, instead of being overcome with fear and despair, we turned to the Lord who took the weight off our shoulders. Even though none of us knew what the future held, we knew that God was in control. We drew comfort from one another and our family became stronger than ever. I am so grateful for this beautiful, perfect gospel that emphasizes the importance of families. I know that living the teachings of this gospel truly blesses families by creating refuge for them, by making relationships stronger, and by bringing them closer together. I am a Mormon because it brings purpose to my life. I am a Mormon because the gospel helps me to find light even when I feel like I am surrounded by darkness. I am a Mormon because I have felt the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon testified to me in my heart and soul. I am incredibly thankful to have felt the pure love that God has for each of His children and strive to live righteously so I can return to live with Him again one day.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith each day by praying to my Heavenly Father and studying His scriptures. I am trying to be more in tune with His will and carrying out any good works He wants to do through me. In my congregation I have been assigned to be the compassionate service leader, which means I do my best to reach out and lighten the load for members that are sick, injured, or going through a particularly difficult time. I am so grateful for the opportunity that the gospel gives me to start anew each day and try to become just a little better, step by step.
