Hi I'm Sam

I grew up in Utah and currently go to college in Idaho. I'm a swimmer and a feminist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name's Sam and I'm a freshman in college. I grew up in the heart of Utah, but spent a lot of time in Nevada and northern California. My family travels a lot and I'm an avid skier as well as a snowmobiler. My junior year of high school I joined the school swim team despite being afraid of water, and now I love swimming because I'm not only good at it, but it's also something people used to tell me I'd never be able to do.

Why I am a Mormon

The last two years I've battled with depression and anxiety, both of which have been fueled by an overwhelming sense of abandonment, imaginary and real. There have been times when I feel like I can't even pray anymore because I've run out of words to say, but lately I've found that those are the times when the Lord sends His tenderest mercies. My demons are still here, but I know that someday my broken mind will be healed and that in the meantime, God loves me and will be there for me no matter how far I seem to fall or how dark my days may seem. I know that he's sent His angels, whether they be here or passed on, when I'm at my greatest need and that He will never abandon me. I am a Mormon because I love this church and the message it brings; it's a message of peace and love and one that I plan on sharing come fall as I embark on a full-time LDS mission. I'm a Mormon because I am the broken vessel and I know that this is where I need to be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by reading my scriptures, writing in my journal, and praying every night, then attending church every Sunday. I live my faith because I'd be in a much darker place without it.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Sam
I've had some personal experience with pornography and how it effects people. I believe that one of the best ways to stop the spread of pornography is to stop teaching people that women are objects for sexual desire and instead teach them to respect others. Pornography is one of Satan's most powerful tools, and once you're caught in that trap, it's hard to escape. Show more Show less
