Hi I'm Jake Burton

I grew up in a military family moving all around the US. I'm currently serving a mission in Tacoma Washington. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the third child in my family of eight children. I grew up with my Mormon family living in all areas of the US. I enjoy fishing, the outdoors, socializing, watching movies, spending time with my family, listening to music, playing guitar, weightlifting, MMA, crossfit, and serving others. I am an Eagle Scout, a high school-graduate, and am serving a mission in Tacoma, Washington.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to follow Jesus' example and be like Him. I spent the early years of my childhood living off of my parents' testimony before I decided for myself whether I would choose to continue following His gospel or not. I spent the next few years of my life on the fence, not knowing whether the church was true. I was casual in my church studies and my testimony was weak. However, when I moved to Virginia when I was 15, I got serious about learning for myself if the church was true. I read the scriptures more than I ever had before and asked God sincerely if He was there and if this church were true. The answer didn't come to me as quickly as I thought it would. As I prayed and studied the scriptures, God strengthened my testimony of His church and of His son. My answer came through the spirit who testified to me of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now, I know the church is true. I know God is there and that He answers prayers. I know His son died for the sins of man and that His atonement is real. I know the Book of Mormon was translated by Joseph Smith and that he restored God's church on the earth. These truths mean more than anything else in the world to me. It is the assurance that I can be with my family forever, that there is a plan of happiness for all of God's children, and that I can be happy here on earth through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I have grown up serving in various positions which have allowed me to serve my church and community. I have spent time teaching others about family history and how to do it, I have worked to bring-less active and non-active friends to church, and I have been able to share my testimony of Christ through words and example.
