Hi I'm Jessica

I'm a Mormon- I know it, I live it, but, most importantly, I love it!

About Me

I'm a dorky college student studying Nursing. I grew up in Washington in a family of seven with a mixed cultural background. I am passionate about living life to the fullest and learning everything I possibly can because knowledge is power (And it's really fun to tell singular stories of wild adventures). One of my favorite things to do is to play and listen to music. I've found that music brings me closer to my Heavenly Father as I pay attention to all the little details and the emotion behind the songs. Hymns are a wonderful way to really feel the Spirit, and their words are wonderful testimonies of the gospel. I work as an ABA Therapist Assistant when I have the semester off, and I love the time I get to spend with those choice children of our Heavenly Father. If you ever want to know what Heavenly Father's love feels like, interact with autistic children. They teach me more in a day than I think I could learn in a year. They're so sweet and really remind you of the little things in life and how important they are.

Why I am a Mormon

I suppose I was a Mormon initially because that is what my parents were- I didn't know anything else nor did I really ever have any desire for anything else. But I wasn't really converted to the gospel until I was old enough to realize how it worked in my life in powerful ways. The biggest and most important reason as to why I am a member today lies in the simple fact that I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that my Savior lives and loves me. I've felt his love for me as I struggled with chronic and sometimes crippling illness, in moments where I have sunk deep into despair, and in every waking minute of every day. He is present and invested in all of us and has given us the gospel and his commandments to help us live lives that make us both happy and ensure that we can return to his loving presence someday. With that solid foundation, everything else about the gospel just falls into place and there really isn't much room to doubt. I am a Mormon because my Savior loves me, but much more importantly because I love him.

How I live my faith

I choose to live my faith as a culmination of little actions every day- wake up and say a prayer, read scriptures, and then go on with my day. I've found that the days where I feel closest to my Savior are those days where I have done all the little things that build a foundation for the bigger things. In my church I have been asked to work as an indexer- indexers are people who look at old records from different events and document them digitally so that other people can search those documents and then find connections to their own families. Since the church has an emphasis on families and their importance to our happiness here and later, indexing is a simple but powerful way to serve others you may never meet find their deceased family members. I am blessed to be able to serve in this capacity.
