Hi I'm Philip Brinkerhoff

I was primarily raised in Southern California, and I live now in Texas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated from college and law school. I have spent my business career in law and finance, including serving as the President and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac). I am a father of five children, and fourteen beautiful grandchildren. I retired at the beginning of 2016 after a working career of forty-six years. My wife of forty-five years passed away in 2013, and I have remarried another wonderful Mormon woman. We are looking forward to spending our retirement years together, and with our family. I love reading (primarily history and biographies), walking, sports, traveling and spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon home. As a young man I considered serving a full-time mission for the church for two years. In deciding whether to go I knew I had to know for myself that the Mormon church was the restored church of Jesus Christ, as it teaches. I studied the tenets of the faith, read the Book of Mormon, and prayed diligently to be guided in my decision. I received a strong prompting from the Holy Ghost that this is the restored Church of Jesus Christ, and that He is at the head of it. Also, that there is a prophet on the earth today guiding the church under the direction of Jesus Christ. I know that Thomas S. Monson is that prophet at the present time. I also gained a testimony that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and serves are a second witness of Jesus Christ, along with the Bible. As a result of this witness from the Holy Ghost I served that two-year mission as a young man, and now, as a recently retired person, my wife and are preparing to serve another mission as a couple. Throughout my life me membership in the Mormon church has been an unmatchable blessing to me, and my family, and has brought me great blessings and happiness. It has guided my choices and decisions in ways that made this possible. I continue to have a firm witness os the restoration of the church, having a living prophet at the head of the church, the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and each of the other teachings of the church. I am deeply grateful to my Father in Heaven for this knowledge. Most of all, I am thankful beyond words to know that Jesus is the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, and that because of His atonement I have the opportunity to live with Him and my Father in Heaven again.

How I live my faith

I have always been active in the Mormon church. As a young man I served a two-year church mission, and I have recently served two periods of about five years each as the Bishop (pastor) of two different Mormon wards (congregations). Previously I supervised programs for the young men in our wards (ages twelve to eighteen), taught church classes for the youth and for adults, and held others responsibilities in the church. The Mormon church is a participatory faith, and I have consistently served on one or more capacities since I was a young man. This service has brought me great blessings and peace in my life.
