Hi I'm Caty

I was born and raised in Southern California. I am adventurous. I am called to serve the Lord in Tucson, Arizona.

About Me

I was born and raised in southern California. I graduated early from high school, and am currently a college student. I am serving a mission in Tucson, Arizona. I am a planner. Ever since I was little I practically had planned out my whole life. Surprisingly enough, I love trying new things. My whole life has been about trying as many different things as possible. In high school and middle school I was involved in: newspaper club, tumbling, choir, volleyball camp, drama club, astronomy club, two plays, yearbook, cheer, swim, French camp, Disney club, and even an internship at an insurance company. My second semester of college, I signed up for a Horseback riding class. It was a last minute decision on my part that I do not regret for a second. Being in that horseback riding class taught me so much about the miracles all around me. To say I tried to get involved in my young life is an understatement. I guess, I just wanted to find what I liked. So, what did I decide to settle with? Since the 3rd grade, I had my mind set on living on a farm with a bunch of property when I grew up. That dream has not yet changed. Out of all of the things I have experienced and done, I find the most joy and feel the most peace in my life when I am surrounded by God's creations in the Great Outdoors. I love hiking and exploring the world around me. Who would have thought that a girl from southern California would ever want to become a farmer?

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family. That does not mean I have been a sunshine and roses type of person my whole life. I have had rough patches here and there like everyone. My middle school and early high school years were very challenging. I didn't do what I was told because someone told me what was what. I wouldn't accept or reject something just because someone told me so. I had to experience things for myself. Likewise, I am not a Mormon just because it is expected or just because my parents are Mormon. Never in my life have I felt more peace than when I am reading my scriptures or attending church. I have read the Book of Mormon, and I can testify of the truthfulness of the words that it contains. I know with all my heart that there is a purpose to life. God lives and loves us. Being Mormon has blessed my life in ways I can never explain. The importance that the Church puts on the family unit is huge to me. They encourage me to follow Christ's plan. Without God I would be nothing. In times of trials, sometimes all you have is God.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday. In high school I often got asked why I would go to the Church building early in the morning every day before school. In our Church we have a wonderful thing called Seminary. Seminary is a program that allows high school aged students to study the Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants every school day. In Southern California we attend seminary at 6 a.m. Sure, it can be hard sometimes. Before I started attending seminary, my parents challenged me to get 100% attendance in seminary. For 4 years, I kept that challenge. Never once do I regret it. Daily scripture study and prayer was and is my beacon of light as I try to draw nearer to Jesus Christ.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

I recently received my mission call to Tucson, Arizona. This has sparked many questions. Do you get to chose where you go? The answer is no. Apostles of the Lord are inspired to send you wherever they feel necessary. However, you can chose whether or not you want to go. It is never by force. There is a stronger emphasis for young men to serve missions. Still, they can choose. A mission is a call from the Lord to serve Him and his children here on earth. You would never tell the Lord that you will only serve Him if you get to chose when and where you go. Show more Show less
