Hi I'm Mark

I'm tall, not dark, and as a matter of fact, some have said handsome. I love to play tennis and piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a person who loves other people. My favorite thing to do is to talk to other people and learn about their lives. I'll try anything once (within reason, that is): whether it be skydiving, hiking the JMT, or even trying escargot. Whatever it is, I'm in. My passions are for math, tennis and piano. People ask me why I like math. I say it's because there isn't a single problem in the world that cannot be solved by the appropriate use of numbers, x's, and y's. Piano is my emotional outlet, and tennis is my competitive one. Without both I would probably explode.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I read The Book of Mormon around the time that I turned eighteen, and discovered it to be the true word of God. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time because my best friend was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I saw the light of Christ that he had in his life, and wanted to know the source of that light. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. It has brought me closer to my Heavenly Father than I have ever been before in my life. It would be impossible for me to ignore the truths that have been revealed through it—truths that have changed my life—and now that I know them I don't think that it would be possible for me to live without them.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by focusing on the promises that I make with my Heavenly Father each time that I take the sacrament on Sundays; taking upon me the name of Jesus Christ, always remembering him, and keeping his commandments. To me, taking upon myself the name of Jesus Christ means to push myself to act in the way that I believe that he would act—in whatever situation I find myself in. It means that I try to go out of my way to help, comfort, and care for those in need, and to share with others the thing that has brought me more happiness that anything else, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I find that always remembering him requires a more proactive approach. It means that I have to actively look for ways that I can come closer to him, even if I am doing something where that is difficult. Recently it has meant listening to recordings of the leaders of the church speak while I am in the car, singing hymns to myself while I am working, and reading the scriptures while at home in order to prepare for my mission. In addition I make an effort to involve myself in my ward, asking the local missionaries if they need help, teaching lessons in Sunday School, and looking for ways that I can use my callings to increase others' connection to Jesus Christ. Keeping his commandments can be difficult at times. There are temptations littered throughout the world, and I fall prey to the often. However, because of my Savior's atonement I know that as long as I make every effort to live up to the standards that he has set for me, and sincerely repent for my shortcomings that he will pick me up and help me grow to do better in the future. I know that my Savior lives, and that my Heavenly Father has a pure love for me. I take every opportunity that I can to grow closer to them. I love my Savior, I love my Heavenly Father, I love the simple truths revealed to me by the Gospel, and I love to be a Latter-day Saint.
