Hi I'm Ashton Raines

I'm a Southern Girl. I'm currently serving mission in Rancho Cucamonga, California. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina. I grew up in a small family; my parents and one little sister. In highschool, I was a gymnast and a cheerleader. After highschool I attended BYU-I for three semesters. which is where I plan to return after my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother grew up Catholic, while my father was raised LDS. She didn't join the church until after they had gotten married. So for me, my family has always been LDS. But my mother and father went through a conversion process that I never got to see. My mom would talk about how she read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know if it was true. She received the strong answer of yes, that it was true. So as a child, I followed in that example. I cannot deny the spirit that I felt in those prayers. I cannot deny the spirit that still feel every time I read those words. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The south does not have many Mormons. As a child, I didn't even realize that my faith was different than most of my friends. As I got older, it became clearer that the lessons I was learning were not the same as those around me. It was hard at first. I couldn't understand why I had to be so different. But as a young beehive, I was taught a phrase: "Live like you believe." I'll never forget the words of my leader when she said, "Even if you are struggling with a testimony, even if you think you don't believe, live like you do. Once you do that, you'll be able to see the way this gospel blesses you." So that's exactly what I did. Time went on, and my testimony grew in ways I couldn't imagine. I live my faith by putting my trust in our Heavenly Father. I live my faith by obeying His commandments.
