Hi I'm Matt

I am from California. I love to surf, read, and play music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a college student, so I'm always busy! But in my free time I like to learn new songs on guitar, have adventures with my friends, or find a quiet spot to read a book.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a non-denominational Christian home, where I learned that God exists and He loves us, but I didn't fully understand His plan for us. Over time, I came to feel like there were pieces missing. My dear friend in high school recognized this and gave me a copy of The Book of Mormon. As I read, I began so see the smoke clear. I could feel the spirit of God in the text, and I realized right away that I needed to read the book carefully because I had a lot to learn from it. I slowly understood the need for a structured church to which the authority of Jesus Christ could reside. I understood where we were before this life, why we are here, and where we are going afterward. I gained a more complete understanding of the atonement of Jesus and how we can use that to get through hard times in our lives. I started going to church and learning even more, and everything I learned made sense. Nothing contradicted itself or the Biblical teachings of ancient prophets. I prayed earnestly to receive a witness of the truthfulness of the book, and by the time I reached the end I had a firm belief that it was truly an inspired text, written by several ancient prophets that lived in the Americas.

How I live my faith

I'm on the committee that plans activities for the students in our church group. We like to have variety, so it could be anything from an organized service project to a simple game of capture the flag. We love to invite our friends who aren't members of the church so we can all become closer and just have a good time! I also visit a handful of (the same) people every month to check in on them and cater to any spiritual or temporal needs they might have. I also share a short spiritual message with them, which always sparks an enlightening conversation and helps all of us to learn more.
