Hi I'm Jimmy

I grew up in Massachusetts. I am preparing to serve a full-time Mission in México. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love science and music. I love physics, particularly astrophysics, and I love anything to do with space exploration. I'm always singing, and I mostly sing A-Capella because there aren't many things better than the sound of a few voices in perfect harmony! Currently, I'm learning piano--it's such a beautiful instrument! I'm also an Eagle Scout--although being a scout and learning to love the outdoors and camping all started because I thought my dad loved to do all those things! He goes hiking a lot, but he never said he hated it! Last summer I worked on a cruise ship, and it was one of the most amazing experiences ever! It was a little steamboat that went up and down the Mississippi River for three months, so I got to see everything from New Orleans to Cincinnati! I don't know what I'll do after my mission, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve. This has been a dream of mine for six years and I am finally spiritually and financially ready to participate in the Lord's work. I have been called to serve in the México Reynosa Mission and I report to the MTC on November 29th, and I can't wait to spend my six weeks singing Christmas songs in the MTC choir!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, because I know this church is true. I have studied it out and my testimony is continually strengthened and reaffirmed by what I read and reread. I follow this Gospel because it is perfect; God is our loving Heavenly Father, families can be together forever, The Lord Jesus Christ atoned for our sins so that we can come back to Heavenly Father and live with him forever. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of the Lord, and that the current prophet and all the officers of our church today were called of God. I know these things because I read the Book of Mormon every day and I pray every day to know if these things are not true. And every time I ask in faith, God answers me out of love for His children.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be there for everyone I know and meet. If my church is true, then we are all children of God and that makes me a brother to everyone. I participate in as many church activities as I can, give rides when possible, go out teaching with the missionaries, give talks in church, anything I can do to help. I want to help, which is why I want to serve a mission. Missionaries are helpers; their whole day is centered around others, unburdened by the normal requirements of life! I can't wait until I can enjoy that blessing

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement is both the reason we are saved from sin and the reason we can strive to be better every day. In this life, any rule, law, commandment (etc.) broken, any mistake--known or unknown, intentional or not--would disqualify us from ever coming back to Heavenly Father, because we have been commanded to be perfect (Matthew 5:48). The punishment for our sins is greater than we could ever overcome. But Jesus Christ, God's only begotten son (the only person ever to have him as a Heavenly and Earthly Father), lived a perfect life, and was able to take upon Himself the punishment for all of our sins and misdeeds. He has paid our debt to the law, and through His grace and our best obedience we can one day return to our Father in Heaven! But it also allows us to grow and learn, and become better than we have ever been. The command to be perfect is no longer a death sentence, but something we can really work towards! Of course, we don't just turn perfect once we're baptized--perfection is still a lofty goal! And it can be applied to every aspect of your life, whether you're trying to learn a musical instrument or struggling with addiction. So don't be perfect, but become perfect in your own lifelong endeavor to be a better person than you were the day before! Show more Show less
