Hi I'm Mike

I'm a husband, dad and a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of six children and grandparents to nine. We love to attend football and basketball games. I have coached most of my children as they've played soccer, basketball and football over the years. We also love to go boating as a family. Lake Powell is one of our favorite family vacation destinations.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon, or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for many reasons. I have come to learn that when I follow the teachings of my faith I am happy, I have peace and I have direction in my life. I have found answers to important questions about life - such as where I came from, what is my purpose on this earth and what happens to me and my family after I die. I have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. I have read the Book of Mormon and I have prayed about it. I have felt peaceful feelings from the Spirit of God assuring me that the Book of Mormon is true. This knowledge has allowed me to know that my Heavenly Father has restored truths, as well as priesthood authority that had been lost to the earth once again. He did this through a young man by the name of Joseph Smith who was an honest seeker of truth. As a result of Joseph Smith's seeking for truth, our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to the young man Joseph Smith and revealed to him the need for a restoration of gospel truths and priesthood authority. Joseph Smith was called by God to be His prophet - a prophet through whom priesthood authority and gospel truths would be restored. One of the great fruits of the truthfulness of the Prophet Joseph Smith is the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a scriptural record, written by prophets of old. It is another testament of Jesus Christ and His teachings. This record was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith for our day. I also know that the priesthood authority given to Joseph Smith exists on the earth today - and just as in times of old, God continues to speak his mind and will through prophets in our day. Anyone can know that what I'm saying is true. I invite you to read the Book of Mormon and ask God if this scriptural record is true. God promises that all who read the Book of Mormon with real and honest intent will come to know for themselves that it is true.

How I live my faith

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with the youth in our ward for many years. We teach gospel lessons each Sunday - often we have the youth take charge of our Sunday lessons. Each week we also have an activity. The activities range from learning different life and potential career skills (cooking, financial literacy, first aid, etc.) to giving service to neighbors in need, to participating in high adventure activities (scuba diving, hiking, water skiing, camping, etc.). Recently my wife and I have been called by the First Presidency of the Church to preside over one of the missions of the church. We will leave this summer for our mission destination where we will have the privilege of working with 200 young missionaries of the church in a different part of the country. We will take our daughter with us. She will now have the chance to attend high school in a different state, make new friends and grow with us on this amazing 3 year adventure.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Knowing the nature of God helps me to know better who I am and what potential I have. I am God's son. I have his DNA - which means that if I do my part I can someday be like him. This helps me try to be a better husband, a better father, a better son and a better friend to those around me. Show more Show less
