Hi I'm Lauren

I am from Idaho. I study Bioinformatics at BYU. I am currently serving a mission in Belem Brazil. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm Lauren! I am the youngest of four girls in my family. Yes, that is correct, no brothers! My sisters and I are actually best friends and share everything (i.e. clothes, makeup, shoes). I am half-Chinese. My mom had the opportunity to meet the missionaries in Sacramento, California, get baptized, and attend Brigham Young University (BYU). At BYU, she met my dad who had just returned from serving a mission in Japan. They met in their chemistry class and the rest is history. I am very grateful for their example of living a life dedicated to serving God, family, and community. I grew up in a small town named Caldwell, Idaho. I grew up playing the piano, violin, and tennis. My favorite high school memory is going to Disney Land with my school orchestra. I am currently a sophomore at BYU located in Provo, Utah. My major is Bioinformatics. It is essentially half biology and half computer science. I am learning how to write computer programs, analyze the human genome, and date. (The latter being the hardest. Boys are a mysterious foreign creature to me.) I hope to go into research of human genetic diseases. I have been called to serve in the Belém, Brazil mission from January 2016 to July 2017. I am very excited to teach others about my savior, Jesus Christ, and the happiness that can be found in living the teachings of Jesus and our modern day prophet. I also look forward to learning about the Brazil culture and getting to know the Brazilians.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because of the happiness the teachings of the church has brought to my life. When I go through a hard time, I know I can turn to my Heavenly Father for council, support, and guidance. I feel so lucky that I grew up learning that I have a Heavenly Father that is always there for me and loves me no matter what. I also like the peace of mind that the doctrine of Mormonism brings to me. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for me. I know that if I am ready and willing to do his work then He will help me. I am Mormon because when I read the scriptures, listen to the words of the prophet and apostles, and pray, I feel God's love for me through the comfort and peace given to me through the Holy Ghost. I continue to follow Christ's gospel because I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, and that as I show faith and repent of my sins, I can become like Him and live with my Father in Heaven for eternity!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. The characteristics that I associate with Jesus are compassion, humility, and a big heart. I try to be compassionate by helping my friends with their homework. I like befriending new people, inviting people to hang out, and visiting family. I try to show humility to Heavenly Father by reading the scriptures and praying each day. I know that I can find answers to my dilemmas by doing these small acts regularly. Furthermore, each Sunday, I head to church early with my roommates so that I can play hymns on the piano as prelude for the meeting. Last, I try to have a big heart by going to the temple as often as I can, and performing saving ordinances for those who were unable to in this life. Additionally, I like reminding people about how much Jesus loves them when they are going through a rough patch. I live my faith each day by trying to be like Jesus.
