Hi I'm Karlie Thurgood

I grew up in the United States. I enjoy sharing with others in need. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Karlie, I have just finished my first semester of college, and I am currently serving a mission in Europe.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the LDS faith by my parents, but I still personally had to be converted to the faith. My personal conversion story begins when I was about fourteen years old. My family went on a vacation to Nauvoo, Illinois. This is a small city where the early saints lived before their trek to Salt Lake City, Utah. For a few days I wandered through this town with my family. However, a day or two before my family left for home, we visited Carthage Jail (this is where the Prophet Joseph Smith was killed). As I sat in the very room that the Prophet was in with a few other men preceding his death, a tape was played. This tape, as I remember, was a narration with the hymn "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" being sung in the background by a man that was acting as Hyrum Smith (the brother of the Prophet). As I pictured in my mind the events that transpired in that room, I was filled with the Holy Ghost at such an extent that I had not yet felt in my life. This feeling has changed me forever. The Holy Ghost truly does reach people and he testifies of all truth. One thing he testifies of every time his presence is felt, is the love that our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ have for us. They love us so much. When a person feels this powerful love, that person is changed forever--never to be the same again. Feeling the Holy Ghost is not just a one-time experience, but a constant companion that is here to help us as we strive to return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know that Heavenly Father has provided a plan for all of us to return to live with Him again because of His perfect love for us. Part of that plan included the necessity for a Savior of the world. We all need our Savior Jesus Christ; without Him we could not return to our heavenly home since not one of us, with the exception of Jesus Christ, is perfect.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by sharing what I believe with others. I have given up time with my family, school, and work so that I can serve God's children in Germany by inviting them to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I try everyday to be the example that my Savior Jesus Christ would like me to be.
