Hi I'm Johnn K. Sterzer

I grew up in Salt Lake City; I went on a mission to England; I served in the United States Navy; I have 5 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Some of my hobbies have been and are: playing softball, big game hunting, fishing, camping, enjoying my 5 children and their spouses and my (so far) 20 grandchildren. I have hunted in Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. My wife and I have horses (Missouri Foxtrotters) and enjoy riding and using them on our hunts. These excursions are usually attended by my family. I am retired but graduated from a 4-year university in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. I have worked in the private sector (including being a partner in a Planning/Design firm in Scottsdale, AZ); taught classes @ Arizona State University; and have worked for 4 federal agencies. I have done considerable work with Native Americans in development and design.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ! When I am around other members of the Church I feel accepted, appreciated and loved. My life seems full of sweet memories and feelings of the Holy Ghost that inspires and motivates me to be a better husband, father, friend, and person. I have a testimony of Christ being the actual Son of God; of the atonement that makes it possible for me to be forgiven of my sins and live with him and my loved ones forever! I feel and experience His love for me and the 'tender mercies' that He extends to me in my life. I love teaching the Gospel because it makes me study the scriptures and the written words of our living Apostles and Prophets. I love revelation and the Spirit that inspires me as I ponder and study. I feel it is a privilege and responsibility to become fluent in the 'language of the Spirit'. I glory in the Plan of Salvation that explains to me where I came from, why I am here and where I am going after this life. I cannot imagine living without "knowing" these things are true and available to me as I struggle with my personal weaknesses and trials of my life. I know the Church is true!

How I live my faith

Everything I am asked to do in church I figure comes from above, and I do it. I have been 3 different troop Scout Masters, taught the youth and adults on Sundays, presided over adult men, have always been assigned as a home teacher to 2 - 3 families or single sisters where I have, with a companion, visited them @ least once a month, always presenting a prepared thought from a church magazine. I volunteer to assist in chapel/temple-cleaning assignments, in neighborhood service projects, or support food drives for the less fortunate. If asked I organize or assist in organizing social gatherings or certain events for church members; such as helping families move in or out, or planning ice cream get-togethers or group parties. I substitute teaching on Sunday for any class, and am assigned a substitute instruction teacher for university youth religion classes.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Johnn K. Sterzer
During my last semester as a senior prior graduation we were assigned a design problem with a construction model. We were given 3 weeks and things were coming a bit slow for me; nothing seemed to fall in place. I realized the fix I was in one night @ school about 3 AM. I had balled up my design and was starting fresh! Then the realization hit me: I had about 4 days to finish and everyone in the lab was @ the time finishing up their models . . and I was starting from scratch!! At that awareness a deep depression hit me and I just rolled up my work and went home. I considered myself one of the 'silver bullets' of my class and here I was facing a failing grade for a project not conceived, not final designed, with no construction model. I remember knelling in the kitchen just before going to bed and being in the middle of a heart-wrenching prayer. I was reviewing my design, my frustration and explaining to the Lord how I thought it would work . . but how it hadn't come together. Then, all in my mind, I pictured HOW it would work. It was my design with modifications. It was so crisp and detailed, and I felt so elated that I jumped up, flipped on the lights and sketched what I mentally pictured. Right then and there I committed myself to follow that design to the letter and make it work. I couldn't wait to get back to the lab. I worked a couple all-nighters to get everything done and just on time. When grades came out I received the highest grade in the class! Show more Show less
