Hi I'm Mary

I am a convert to the church and a retired nurse. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Mom of 4 and grandmother of 10. I am a retired nurse. I love sewing, quilting, reading historical novels and traveling. I enjoy doing family history.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a Mormon. I joined the church soon after my husband and I were married. He had recently joined the Church and I liked the opportunity of being married to him for eternity. I had never even heard of Mormons prior to meeting my husband. I never knew what wonderful blessings I would receive by joining. I have learned so much! I always had a testimony of Jesus Christ but now I know and understand who he is. I know that God knows who I am and is always there for me. I feel his love. There are many opportunities to be involved and to help others. We have moved frequently with my husband's job and each place we have moved to, we immediately feel at home because the Church is always there and the people welcome you. We have many friends worldwide because of our associations in the Church. I never understood I could read scriptures for myself prior to joining. Now I love to read the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I feel closer to God when doing that. I receive directions for my life. Being a Mormon is not just joining but a new way of life-a better life!

How I live my faith

I am a part-time missionary serving as a financial secretary. Soon my husband and I are leaving for New Zealand to serve a full-time mission. We have recently moved to North Carolina and will miss our new neighbors and friends. We enjoy taking walks and stopping to talk to all of our neighbors.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Mary
I never fully understood the atonement. I knew he sacrificed his life to pay for our sins. As I have learned more, I have come to appreciate that there is an enabling part to the atonement. Through his mercy and grace, he helps me to be a better person. I am able to do things that I never thought I could do! Show more Show less
