Hi I'm John Larsen

I grew up in Payson, Utah. I grew up there, lived there and thought I would die there. I'm a Mormon and boy was I wrong.

About Me

As I said I grew up in Utah. However I met a wonderful girl from Washington state and the rest is history. I had a wonderful career for 25 years as a Washington State Trooper. Being a police officer is both challenging and very rewarding. During that time we raised our family with 3 great children who are now all grown and on their own. We now get to worry about the 4 grandchildren. I served a mission when I was 19 and had the chance to serving in the land of my heritage Denmark. My wife and I are now preparing to return to Denmark as a senior couple. What more could a man ask for?

Why I am a Mormon

When I was growing up in Utah, I guess I was a Mormon because that was all that I knew. However something began to change for me when I was about 14 or 15. I realized I really like going to church, I really like associating with others and church functions and I knew that was where I was supposed to be. When I turned 19, going on a mission seemed the very natural thing to do. To see people that scarified so much to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. How could I take it so casually. I began to feel what life would be like without the influence of the gospel in my life and began to work hard to make sure I never reached that point. When I returned home and was married, gave me even greater insight in having an eternal companion and the only multiplied as we had children. Family can be together forever; I know that it's true. I want to work even harder to make sure my family will be together. I thankful for a living prophet, someone who we can always look towards for guidance and inspiration. In this world we live in, have the Prophet, twelve Apostles and many other to lead, guide and give council to us. Is like a very large security blanket, that you can wrap around you all the time to keep you warm. But most importantly you can wrap around you at night and go to sleep, know all is well, if we follow our leaders.

How I live my faith

I have been blessed to serve in a variety of calling; from working with the Cub Scouts to being a Bishop. Currently, I serve as a counselor in the Stake Young Men's Presidency. At my age I thought I was beyond this calling. Meaning; I thought I was too old. It only goes to prove that Lord doesn't care about age or beauty. He does care about desire. He knew I love working with younger people. It also re-enforced my motto: I may be getting old; but I refuse to grow up.
