Hi I'm Russ

I grew up in Portland, Oregon. I'm a retired entrepreneur and businessman. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm retired. My career was in various businesses as a manager, trainer and owner. My hobbies are golf and woodworking. I met my wife in a performing group in college. We have four beautiful children and four grandchildren, who I love to spoil. I frequently do volunteer work where I live. It helps me get outside of myself.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I grew up as Mormon, I did not always believe. But there comes a time in every person's life when they have to ask the "terrible questions". Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? I came to that point in my life between high school and college. When I got on my knees and asked God if He really lived, I received an answer to my prayer. This experience taught me that God lives, and that He hears and answers prayers. I not only received a testimony that God and Jesus Christ live but, as I continued to pray, I learned that the Book of Mormon was truly the word of God, that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the church I should be a member of. Knowing the answers to those "terrible questions" has given me peace in my life and a firm foundation for being able to help others who might be struggling in their lives. I know that God lives. We are His children and He loves us more dearly than we can imagine. He wants us to come back to live with Him, and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ will allow us to do that.

How I live my faith

Most of my time has been involved with leading and organizing various groups and in teaching and training. I've spent considerable time voluntarily helping refugees and those in the inner city suffering from addictions. I've also spent time assisting the unemployed to find jobs. I have taught gospel classes as well as classes on how to be a better spouse and parent. I believe that God wants us to be all that we can be, and I try hard to help others do that in any way I can.
