Hi I'm Kory Joseph Beck

I'm a mormon who converted in august 2014 and about to serve a mission is South Africa, Durban.

About Me

I grew up in Portland, Oregon. I am an only child and was never apart of a previous religion, but did classify as a christian because I did have faith in God and Jesus Christ. During my teenage years I always felt like something was missing my life and never had a real place where I felt I fit in. Where I lived had a pretty good population of LDS members and it wasn't like I was completely unaware of the Mormon religion. I was mostly exposed to it in High School where I met several friends and was learning about the religion even though at the time had no interest in it. Those who I met were usually apart of choir and was involved in theater. I usually viewed the LDS community as not athletic and different then everyone else. This changed when I met the friend who would lead me to the church. She was a basketball player who was athletic and seemed more normal than the other theater choir mormons Ive met. Since we became great friends and I met her family, this is where I started to see what LDS members were really like. After being friends for several years and dating, she invited me to meet with the missionaries and the rest is history. I was baptized and started becoming very involved in the church at the college I attended and that is where I received my call that I should serve a mission. I started helping the missionaries teach lessons very often and now I am very excited to serve the Lord for 2 years in South Africa, Durban.

Why I am a Mormon

I haven chosen this church because of the revelation I have received from the Lord and the prayers I have had answers. I know the God our father loves each one of us along with Jesus Christ in a way we can't even imagine. I strive my hardest to follow the commandments because I do love the Lord. I have received testimonies of the teaching of the church and above everything I have felt and know the truth of this church.

How I live my faith

I live in the Five Oaks ward where I was baptized and attend the YSA ward every once and awhile. When I attended college I had 3 callings. The first, FHE committee where we would plan the activities for every Monday. This calling was great because it helped me get through hard times at a school where partying was a very pressured and met many friends through this calling. The next was Ward missionary, this was another callings that was fantastic because it helped me begin to do what I love which was help others and start missionary work. The next also went along with missionary work because it was a chance to meet the new members of the ward like I was also, as a fellow ship committee member. All these callings really increase my testimony just as much as general conference. As I've continue to live the gospel I have seen my testimony increase as I followed the teachings. Like living the word of wisdom as I saw so much partying at college and how it affected peoples lives. Also from watching general conference which has given me a testimony of the Prophet and the Apostles. Lastly I am about leave for my missionary calling in South Africa, Durban.
