Hi I'm Shelby

I was born and raised in Colorado Springs. I have 10 siblings - 6 brothers, 4 sisters. I'm studying Nursing at BYU. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in raised in Colorado Springs. I LOVE Colorado! I love doing things outside like hiking and camping. I'm also athletic. I love playing tennis, going to the gym, volleyball, and roughing around with my siblings, especially my older brothers. I come from a BIG family. I'm #8 of 11 children. Me and my 7 older siblings are all from my mom and my 3 younger siblings are adopted. 2 girls from China and my younger brother from Arizona. I play the piano and violin and I enjoy singing. I also love movies! I'm very bubbly and outgoing. I love to laugh. I'm currently studying Nursing but taking a break from school to serve an 18 month mission in the Chile Concepcion South Mission. My family, the gospel, and my Savior are my joy.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I feel that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored gospel of Christ on this Earth. I have never felt more joy and peace and direction than when I am studying and living the principles and doctrines of this gospel. My family has been through many trials. I believe in the importance of agency...the ability to choose for oneself. But sometimes the choices that others make can harm those around them, especially those that love them. That has been the case with my brothers. Each one of the has dealt with substance abuse and/or severe addiction. My younger brother has an attachment disorder. I have experienced death, loss, depression, and all the effects of the effects that came with my brother's choices. But in all those trials, when others would have lost hope, my faith in my Heavenly Father's love and plan of happiness for each one of his children has kept me strong and hopeful. Everyone goes through hard things. But I know that our Heavenly Father and Savior are aware of our struggles and they will and do comfort us. The love us and want us to be happy. They have provided a way that we can be happy. That is through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Through Him, we can repent of our wrong doings, and turn to him when we are in pain because he has felt our pain and knows how to comfort and succor us. I know that as we live righteously, we find more strength to bear what the adversary throws our way. I know this to be true because I have felt power that was not my own as I have been obedient to Heavenly Father's commandments. I know what it feels like to make mistakes...to transgress. I know that I do not want to live in sin because of the way it makes me feel and the direction and confidence I lose when I do so. But I also know how it feels to repent and be forgiven. There is no sweeter joy than the feeling of the Atonement working in our lives. It is my strength. I want others to have that same joy.

How I live my faith

I have been called to serve in the Chile Concepcion South Mission for 18 months. I leave November 4th. Currently I'm in my home ward before I leave on my mission and I've been called as an advisor for the young women. I love being able to work with, teach, and serve the youth. That was such a critical time for me, so I hope I can make an impact on the girls just as my leaders made on me.
