Hi I'm Kivalu

I was born and raised in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. I am a Mormon missionary serving in New York City. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am serving in the New York City North Mission, speaking Mandarin Chinese. I recently graduated from high school. I attended Boy Scout activities through my church, and attained the rank of eagle scout when I was 14 years old. Throughout high school, I participated in clubs such as Model United Nations, in which I would travel with others in my school to local conferences and conferences in locations abroad, such as Anchorage, Alaska. I also spent time participating in my school's speech and debate club. Being a technology aficionado, my friends and I created "iClub", a technology-centered club, which ended up being my school's go-to place for tech support. My friends and I spent the better part of our freshman-junior years' free time working on "iClub" projects. I don't really consider myself an artistic person, but I had a really amazing theatre teacher and some really awesome friends who helped me learn how to write plays. In my Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior years, I wrote several plays, two of which were performed at a local theatre. I will be serving a mission for the next couple of years. Afterwards, I will enter Stanford University, where I plan to study computer science and economics.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family, so the principles of the Gospel have always been a part of my life. However, I have found that as I have become older, more inquisitive, and more critical, I have truly found that this Gospel is the truth. I have found that as I practice my beliefs as a Mormon, they bring me happiness. Although, I have been a Mormon for my entire life, it has only been through my application of Gospel principles that I have been able to confirm its truth and have been able to sincerely convert myself. I am a Mormon because living the gospel is the only way that I know how to find true joy.

How I live my faith

I currently live my faith by giving up the next two years of my life in order to serve the Lord on a mission. For the next two years, I will spend my 16 hour days serving the Lord by inviting and helping others to come unto Christ. Before being called to serve as a missionary, I have had the privilege of serving in a few different capacities. For a time, I served as my ward's website specialist. I received information regarding events that were occurring in the community or in my church and I would send out notifications through email and through an online calendar, to keep the members of my church up-to-date with activities and scheduling. Additionally, I was on a committee to help plan events for the teen-aged youth in my church. These events included activities such as dances and dinners. Essentially, our committee aimed to plan events that were both enjoyable and enlightening. Each Sunday, other young men and would prepare and bless the sacrament for our ward and would often deliver it to elderly individuals who were unable to make it out to the church. From time-to-time our ward planned and completed service projects which aimed at helping the community or elderly individuals. Each month, my father and I aimed to counsel and share messages with families on our church. All of these activities helped to strengthen my faith and assisted in bringing me closer to the people whom I served and served with.
