Hi I'm Silvie

I grew up in Lisbon, Portugal. I'm a nurse and enjoy helping others. I like books, music and arts. I'm a Mormon and I love it!

About Me

I was born in Guinea-Bissau but grew up in Portugal! I live with my father and younger sister. I also have an older brother. My family is very important to me and I enjoy spending time with them. I'm a Nursing graduate and I love my profession! I play glockenspiel and I did theater for 10 years. In my free time I love reading tons of books, listening to music and go to concerts, dancing, make funny videos with my sister, camping, watch movies TV series and theater plays. I enjoy swimming, volleyball and riding bikes. I also enjoy cooking and sewing and creating cool stuff. I'm involved in volunteering and I'm very passionate about it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years and four months now. I was raised by a catholic mother and a father without religion but with a very strong faith in the gospel. My parents always taught me about God and Jesus Christ. As a child I learned to read the scriptures daily, always pray and endeavor to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I never identified my self with the Catholic religion so after making my 1st communion I asked to leave catechesis which made my mom very sad. During adolescence I attended the evangelical church but did not find the truth that I sought. I spent some time without practicing any religion until the sisters found me. They were tireless in teaching me and after 3 months of lessons I asked them to be baptized. My heart and my actions changed and I no longer had the desire of living my life appart from my Heavenly Father. I wanted to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I had received a strong testimony that the Book of Mormon is true, the prophet Joseph Smith was the prophet of the restoration and that the gospel and the Church of Christ is again on earth. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that through Him I can do all things that are just, I know that I have a Heavenly family in which I recognize my Divine Nature. I know where I came from, why am I here and where I want to go. I know that we now have a true prophet to guide us in the way that will lead to our Heavenly Father. I am a Mormon because I know that I'm a daughter of God. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and I'm willing to live His teachings and to be a disciple of Christ and stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving in my home, church and community. Every day I do my best to keep His commandments and the covenants that I have made. I attend church meetings every Sunday and serve in my ward as Young Women's leader, youth's Sunday School teacher and Family History Consultant. As a young girls' leader I teach them about who they are, where they can go and what they should achieve in this life. I have learned a lot from them and I know that every woman is a very special and much loved daughter of God. As a family history consultant I help other people to discover their ancestors and build their family trees. I know that families can be together forever if we choose the gospel of Jesus Christ. I appreciate the simple things in life and try to see the hand of our Heavenly Father in all things and do everything for Him. I like serving one another because when I do so I learn about how to be more like my Savior and increase my love for others. By studying the scriptures and praying daily I always know what to do when I have doubts. It is not a burden to live the gospel but a constant joy that makes me and smile each morning. I know that my Savior is right there beside me and no matter what I’ll never be alone.
