Hi I'm Tess Nielsen

I am a retired gymnast and gymnastics coach. I live in Los Angeles. I love sharing the gospel. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was originally born in Provo, Utah, but I would consider myself to be a California girl. I have lived in Los Angeles my whole life. I love being in the ocean. I love going to concerts in the city. I am often working on different art projects like drawing, painting, or making clothes. I also love to write, hike, rock climb, surf, and just to be outdoors. I work as a gymnastics coach. I love it. I was a competitive gymnast for 8 years and it's amazing to have the opportunity to teach kids. I was a college student at BYUI, but I am taking some time off to serve a full-time mission. Serving a mission is always something that I have wanted to do, because I have never been afraid to share what I believe in and being LDS is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Why I am a Mormon

As a Latter-Day Saint (Mormon), there seems to be a lot of "rules" to follow. But, I don't see it that way. Choosing to be chaste before marriage, to keep the Sabbath day holy, follow the Prophet, pay a full tithe, and to have the faith to be obedient to the commandments; that is what has made my life simple. Life can be really hard and by living the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it gives you the perspective to be able to see the good in everything, even during really hard times. I know for a fact that God is not some made up hope that people have created in order to have a better sense of why we are here on earth; he is so real. We are in total control of what we bring into our lives, whether it's God or not. The world offers many substitutes for happiness. But these only provide a temporary state of happiness, and I was looking for more. I wanted something that could last forever. The beautiful thing about life is that you can do whatever you want, you can choose with the agency that God has given us. I know that the world sees striving to follow Jesus Christ as something that is constraining, and that there are these "rules". It can seem that these commandments keep us from doing things that we want to do… but the funny thing is I want to follow these commandments because it testifies to me of God's love for me. Choosing to live this way has allowed me to see God's love for me in my family, friends, the good times, the bad times, the in-between. I know that he is there. Once you know that God loves you and has a plan for you- you will finally understand who you are, why you are here, and where you are going. You begin to see yourself through Heavenly Father's eyes. You begin to see yourself as more. And that is why I am a Mormon, because I know that I am worth more and that we are all children of God, meant to become something more.

How I live my faith

My current calling, that I chose, is to serve a full-time mission. There is no place I would rather be at this time in my life. As a missionary you are able to love the people that you teach and serve everyday.
