Hi I'm Benjamin

I grew up in a small town and love the outdoors. Parenting is one of the happiest struggles of my life, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I moved to the big city when I was able, to start my career. I am a new Dad and I love the struggles that it brings. I love doing as much outdoors as I can. I am a nerd at heart, so when I'm not outdoors, I'm in front of a computer or around a table with friends and family. I can't be at the beach, so I like to bring the beach to me. I'm about as laid back as you can get.

Why I am a Mormon

I don't believe that I have ever been asked this questions before. I was born into my Mormon family, so I grew up that way. However, during my late teenage years and early twenties, I stopped progressing in the gospel. I was angry, I was confused, I was impatient, some of the people around me were good examples, most were not. I went away from the church for many years, although I never admitted that I was not Mormon. I knew what I knew was true and I couldn't deny it, but I didn't want to. I wasn't happy, truly happy, for years. I thought I was, but I wasn't. I had become bitter, cold and distant, but I thought that I was happy. I one day realizing that it was all a façade. There was something that was placed over my thoughts and feelings that was not mine. It was placed there by the adversary. I was so far gone I thought there no way to go back, so I started the cycle again. I later decided to take one thing at a time, just one thing and grow another one on top of that. Slowly, and assuredly, I grew in my faith again. It was one of the hardest things in my life. But by far, it is my most prized possession. My faith and testimony of the restored gospel and of Jesus Christ. I am in no ways complete in my faith, I will always be learning and growing. I get excited when I find something in the scriptures that answers a question, links to another story or testimony of another Prophet. God is not Dead, and He loves us. The sooner we swallow our pride and look for light, the better our lives can be.

How I live my faith

My faith is largely responsible for who I am. The closer I am to the gospel, the happier I am. It's not the easier life gets, but with faith in Christ, life is perceived as easier and much lighter to carry. Therefore, the closer I stay, the better I am. I am the Young Men's Secretary in my ward. It has been a great calling. I have been teaching Elder's Quorum for 4 years, and now I have moved on to this. It is a great opportunity to teach the youth of Christ and what to prepare for soon in their life. Learning about our Eternal Priorities is most exciting to me at the moment. It is currently what I am learning about.

What is the priesthood?

Benjamin
The priesthood is quite literally the power of God given to man, as authority to act in His name. It is a gift that has been passed down throughout generations of righteous men. The priesthood is not something to boast about, or gives anyone the right to do what they wish or say what they want. It is not a mantle of prestige. To act in someone's name means to act as how they would, or in harmony with their personality and way of life. Therefore, if you act contrary to God's teachings, you are not acting in His name. The priesthood is on this Earth to help Man (as in all mankind) to return to Him. That means a variety of things, but most importantly, it is a charitable gift. You can not use it for your own gain. You can't give yourself a blessing, baptize yourself, give the gift of the Holy Ghost to yourself among other things. These are things you do for other people, so that we might ALL return.
