Hi I'm Skye

I am a convert. I love the outdoors, amd my passion is Emergency Management and disaster response. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I learned about the Church through a fellow student at college, Brian. He gave me a copy of the Book of Mormon, and as I scanned the pages, I knew that I was holding scriptures in my hand. I asked why it hadn't been given to other churches yet. Brian set my first lesson with the missionaries at the Church on an early Wednesday morning. The moment I walked into the Church, I knew I had found what I had been looking for. I came with many questions, especially regarding the first chapters of the Book of Mormon. That night, I became homeless. My only thought was to get to the place I felt safe - the Church and my next meeting with the elders Friday morning. By morning, I found myself at college. While waiting for housing, I saw my former martial arts student, Kevin. I asked how he and his son were; then without hesitation, I asked if he knew what the Book of Mormon was. He did, but I continued to tell him anyways! He turned and said, "I know, I'm a member of the Church." I replied, "Me too; well, I will be." His wife, Julia, and family took me in for a few days. Julia went with me the next morning to the lesson. This time, no fancy new car or expensive clothes; this time, with a member, her kids, and borrowed clothes. But I had everything I needed and was where I needed to be. Elder Mecham baptized me ten days later, with Brian and Elder Eckstein as witnesses. Julia was beside me the whole day. Fifteen years later, I still know the Church is true.

Why I am a Mormon

I looked in many different churches for something that I "felt" was missing. I found these things when I first visited the Mormon church: the Spirit of God and His Priesthood, which is the authority given to men to act in the name of God. I know the Church of Jesus Christ is the true Church on earth, guided by Jesus Christ himself through latter-day prophets. I know the Book of Mormon is true, is the word of God, and was translated by Joseph Smith by the gift and power of God. I know Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I attend meetings every Sunday and go to the Temple every week. I do my best to treat others with respect, kindness, and patience at all times. Scripture reading and prayer are important daily activities that help me come to know my Savior better and be a better example of His love and teachings.
