Hi I'm Alisia Garcia

I was born in Utah, but moved to New Mexico when I was 10 years old, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am Currently attending Brigham Young University Idaho. This next year would be my thrid year of school but I have decided to take a break from school and serve a full time mission. I just recieved my call this week and i will be serving in Xalapa Mexico, Spanish speaking. I never thought that I would be the kind of person to serve a mission, but in the last two years my testimony of the gospel has grown so much that I want to share it with everyone that I know.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the church even though i was baptized when i was eight years old. When I was born My father was not a member of the church and my mother was, but she was not active. my father wanted me to be baptized like he was in the catholic church, so i was, and so was my older sister. Three years later some missionaries came to our house and talked to my dad, and my dad told my mom later that evening that we as a family where going to have the missionaries come and teach us about the gospel. My dad was baptized into the church and when me and my sister turned eight years old we were also baptized. through the years my family and I have gone in and out of the church. in 2005 we stopped going to church all together because we moved to a new place with people that we didn't know. in the middle of 2009 we started to go back to church and it had a whole new meaning to me. when I left for school for the first time last year there was a big storm that had left most of the appartment buildings in Rexburg flooded, but the amount of help that everyone gave to those that had lost everything they had was a tremendous testimony builder for me. I know that the church is true that the Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the gospel. I know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and was a true prophet of God. I know that we have a living prophet on the earth that we follow today. And i also know that Jesus is the savior of the world and that through his atonement we can all return to our heavenly father again someday.

How I live my faith

The calling that I currently have in my branch is a primary teacher for 10-11 year old children. In the beginning when I first stared to teach them I felt like they had no idea what I was trying to get across to them. But just this last week in a lesson we were having one of my students was asked to share all of the stories that he knew about Jesus. To my surprise he recalled every story that we had talked about in class:) I have also served as a family history director. Family History is another way of saying genealogy work, this is one of the most fun callings that i have had on the church. i love connecting lost ancestors to their families.
