Hi I'm Ellie

I'm from California. I live in Hawaii and go to BYU-Hawaii. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student at BYU-Hawaii, majoring in Social Work. I love the ocean, hiking, bodysurfing, and being active in general. I really enjoy getting to know new people from all over the world and experiencing new cultures. I am the youngest of nine children so I value my family more than anything.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon. I was baptized when I was eight years old and have been an active member since. I've had a testimony of this gospel since I was young but I didn't realize how truly amazing and different this church is until I got to college. When I moved out and came to BYU, I started making some bad decisions that I shouldn't have done. As my secrets got darker, so did my days and I found it harder to be happy. I know I needed to talk to a church leader about what I had done and repent but my pride was too strong and I was afraid of the consequences. However, one night, I was doing scripture study and read Alma 37:33 and just the first four words hit me and they said, "Preach unto them repentance.." I was suddenly humbled and had to promptings in my mind: the first that I needed to repent and everything would be okay and that I needed to serve a full time mission. I couldn't believe it. Those thoughts definitely didn't come from me. I never wanted to serve a mission. But that week I talked to my church leader and realized what I needed to do. Repentance wasn't an easy process but I can testify that there is no better feeling than that of being cleansed. My life changed that day. I better understood the atonement and the sacrifice that Jesus Christ had made for me and for you. He made it possible that we can all return to him and be cleansed. the atonement not only accounts for our transgressions but is for when we need comfort or are angry or impatient or depressed. The Atonement accounts for all of that also. After a couple long months, I now have my mission call to serve in Brazil and I couldn't ask for a greater blessing to serve those people for a year and a half. I know this is the true gospel and can change anyones heart and anyones life. I have a testimony of the love our Savior and our Heavenly Father has for all his children. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and has blessed my life. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

In my Young Singles Adult Ward, I am the Family Home Evening Coordinator. It is my job to prepare an activity, spiritual thought, and refreshments to help bring our ward closer together as a family on monday nights. When we become close like a family, we can rely on each other and the Lord to help us through our toughest experiences.
