Hi I'm Laura

I grew up in a small town in Arizona. I love reading. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love reading! I started college as an English major because of that, but I'm more into young adult fiction, not Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson. So, for now, I'm just working on general stuff, and hopefully I'll figure out a major soon! I also love hiking. I worked for a summer at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico and was able to do a lot of hiking in the backcountry. And I loved it! I've hiked Mt Baldy on Philmont property, Mt Wheeler (the tallest mountain in New Mexico) and Mt Humphreys (the tallest mountain in Arizona). I've also hiked the Grand Canyon several times-I've even hiked from rim to rim two times. I grew up on a little farm. We had a garden, two fields of alfalfa, and a field of corn. During the summers, we would get up early every morning and hoe weeds for two hours. I also learned how to drive tractors, irrigate, and many other things that are included in farm work. My mom always said that she wasn't raising a garden, she was raising kids to work hard!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it makes sense. I was raised in the Church, so I've never known anything else. I didn't really have a testimony for a long time; I just survived off of other people's testimonies, like my parents. But as I got older, I realized that I needed to have my own testimony, or I would fall away from the Church. As I began to study and pray earnestly to receive my own testimony, I realized that I actually did have a testimony, I just had to look to find it. Logically, the Church makes sense. I can't find any other way to explain everything if the Church wasn't true. I know that Joseph Smith prayed when he was just 14 years old, and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ was restored through Joseph Smith, and that it really is Jesus Christ's true church. I know that God is my Heavenly Father, and that He loves me. He listens to my prayers and answers them. He has given us scriptures and living prophets to help us live our lives in a way that we can return to live with Him again. He wants all of His children to return and live with Him again, so He gave us Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ is my brother, and that He performed the Atonement so that I can repent of my sins and return to live with Him and Heavenly Father. I love my Heavenly Father, and I know that He loves me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going to the temple as much as I can and performing ordinance work vicariously for the dead. When I'm at college, I'm just a short walk from the temple and I try to attend once a week. When I'm home, it takes a little bit longer to get the temple, but my mom and I still try to go once a week. I also had the opportunity to serve as a temple worker for a few weeks before I left on my mission. I loved watching people come in to the temple, looking stressed and tired, and then seeing them leave so much happier and not as stressed. I loved when I was able to help the people that came to the temple!
