Hi I'm Travis Shumway

I grew up working with animals. I'm an eagle scout and a Wrestler. I'm a Mormon

About Me

In High School I was a devoted wrestler, trombone section leader, and Senior Class president. I enjoy snowboarding, surfing, excercising and hanging out with my friends. My family is all musical and we are often asked to sing for different events. I play the piano, trombone, and I aspire to someday play the guitar. After I graduated I moved to Connecticut for the summer to sell Pest Control as a door to door salesman. I'm currantly preparing to go on a mission to Guatemala.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because i choose to be. I have seen how the Gospel of the church has helped my life. At times when I become less interested in the church I can feel myself become empty but as I read my scriptures and continue to participate in church activities I can feel the spirit in my life. I know that the Prophets of our church are inspired men and their teaching are true. I know this because i have felt the spirit when i listen to them speak. The moment I realized the church was true was on a camping trip up in the High Sierra's. We had been hiking all day and we stopped to make a fire and set up camp. When we were sitting around the fire our bishop asked us to share how we felt about the church and to bear our testimonies. As each young man shared what he believed the spirit hit me hard. By the time it got to my turn to say something I could barely speak because I was crying. I was able to get out that I knew with all my heart that this was the True Gospel of Christ. Since then my Faith has been challenged but I know what is right and I know what will make me happy. So why would I not be a Mormon?

How I live my faith

During High School I would go to seminary at the church every morning at 6:30 to study the scriptures and learn. I go home teaching to many people that are in my church to see how they are doing and if we can help them in any way. I have spent many of my saturdays assisting people move, working in backyards or helping someone finish their Eagle Scout Project. I participate in the church choir and love to sing. I am a leader in the young men group and often plan camping trips and other activities. I have also been on a youth comity group that is in charge of the activities the youth do in my city. Its a lot of fun and i enjoy working with amazing people.
