Hi I'm Dawn

I grew up in Southern California. I am a wife and a mother of 7. I volunteer as often as I can. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up LDS and have pioneer heritage on my mom's side. My dad is a first generation American - his parent's immigrated from Germany. I am an only child that grew up in Southern California. My parent's had foster children in the house for a few years and one of them I consider my sister to this day. I love animals and have always had some in my life. I also love children, probably why I have 7 of them - and only 1 boy in the bunch (he is an Eagle Scout). I am a stay at home mom, but have worked in a doctors office, amusement park, vets office, school, as well as did home sales, and of course I can't forget the babysitting. I can sew, but don't do it often, crochet (do that when my hands are bored). I am an avid reader, can't get enough books. I love nature. At times I think I was just born at the wrong time, because I love old stuff and the slower pace of life. I am trying to start a garden again and trying to find ways of pulling myself away from a computer (they can be so addictive and time consuming, but also help me connect with family and friends that aren't close by). I also enjoy doing genealogy, even though much of mine is done. My passions are my family, learning, and helping others.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the LDS church. I was baptized at the age of 8 and had the Spirit bear witness to me that I had made the right decision. To this day I know that I felt someone holding my hand and whispering to me that they would be with me and how proud they were of my decision after I was baptized. I had my struggles as a teenager as most do and even though I questioned many things I also searched and learned more. I read the Bible and the other scriptures available to me and studied them. I never stopped going to church, but I do feel that I was reconverted to the church as a young adult. Jesus Christ is my older brother and I love Him with all my heart. I know that He loves me unconditionally and is my strength when I am weak. I know that I would not be the person I am today without the church in my life, it truly shapes me. I know because of the church and the gospel that I can have my family with me not just in this life by the life to come. That is such a joy and a peace to my heart to know that I will always have my family with me. I know that the people in the church are not perfect, but the gospel is. I know that those imperfect people do their best and when we need each other they are there to help. When times are tough I know that I can speak to my Heavenly Father and he will support me at every step, if I let him. To know that my Savior suffered for me so that even if I turn my back on Him for a time, He will be waiting for me to turn back to Him with no judgement is Amazing. I have seen the transformation in those I love and it is a beautiful thing to witness. How could I be anything other than a Mormon with the blessings and assurances in my life.

How I live my faith

I work with the children in our church, those ages 18 months to 11 years old. I have opportunities to teach the 3 to 11 year old children every few months and also learn from them. I also help to plan events for them during the year. I volunteer in the schools as often as I can, including ones that my children are no longer involved in. I also volunteer with my daughter at a cat rescue group. I am always trying to reach out and help others. I have gone out with our missionaries to help them in teaching others about our church. I also spend time on a monthly basis getting to know and helping other woman in our church.
